He will at least contemplate leaving, but now that he's won titles at Clemson, I'd be stunned if he actually did. Given everything that he's built there, there's no reason for him to leave to go anywhere.

Before Dabo won a title at Clemson, and perhaps even after he won the first title, there was a 100% chance he'd go if offered. Now, not so much.

I don't think anyone wants to be the guy following Saban.

Someone will of course when Alabama backs the Brink's truck up to their house and tells them "say when", but it will be the shortest honeymoon in CFB history.

For those that mention Dabo:

No matter the bridges he’s blown to bits he could set fire to Bryant Denny and they’d still call. They only care about one thing: winning.

I’ll be surprised if he turned it down

No coach who has built something somewhere else wants to be the guy who follows Saban.

There are at least a few guys though, who haven't made it somewhere else, who will step into that fire as long as you paid them enough. That isn't a good setup for Bama though, who will only want to turn the keys over to someone who has more than proven themselves somewhere else.

I wouldn't be surprised if he turns it down. It makes ZERO sense to leave Clemson for Alabama. He has built a dynasty that is every bit as good as Alabama. He has fertile recruiting grounds. He has a far easier conference to navigate. He has facilities that are just as good as any in the SEC. And he gets paid an enormous sum of money to coach Clemson. I can't think of a single good reason he should leave Clemson and go to Alabama.

His contract was until 2023 already. They should have waited until ‘21 at a minimum to do anything after losing to GA State last year.

True, but it’s not like hed somehow be worse at Bama. They’ll pay him a stupid amount of $$$ were he won’t be able to say No.

Clemson would be able and willing to match any $$$ Alabama offered. 5 years ago, no, but they could/would today. He already makes more than Saban and has for the last couple of years.

Clemson can also pay a stupid amount of money. And while he might have just as much talent at Alabama, it’s not easy to just change jobs and replicate the success immediately. Not to mention he’d have to navigate the toughest division in all of college football every year, when currently Clemson plays in the Atlantic a joke of a division that they can sleep walk in each year and still win. They have one program, Florida State, that is a threat in that division and there is no telling when they turn it around.

Going into year 3 without much progress on field with the offense.
Not even close to scaring one of our Big Three rivals yet, still getting curb stomped.
Record overall very hornblowerish.
Had to be done though for recruiting purposes.
Cost of doing business.

Butch was terrible, no doubt. But the culture problems began in the last several years of Fulmer’s tenure...continued down with Dooley...and then just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, along came Butch. So, while I agree with you, I am just pointing out that the job is even greater, because this staff is having to reverse a 12+ year assault on a winning culture.

To protect future recruiting and asst coach stability it was necessary to show the HC will be around. A HC's contract get to 2 yrs and no extension on the table, rival teams will use that against you in recruiting and spread rumors the HC is on shaky ground. Works for rival schools to recruit asst coaches to. I believe you have to keep a good coach locked in at 3-5 yrs at all times to protect the above.

Reasonable extension.

I think a pro team like Jacksonville or Atlanta might make a run at Swinney this off season.

Pretty impressive gesture by Pruitt if you ask me.
