Pruitt gets two year extension

Personally, I don't see the leverage that Pruitt had in these negotiations that necessitated this at this time. As long as this didn't significantly drive up the buy-out portion of the contract, then the $400K raise is fine and just the cost of doing business and would help in recruiting for sure.

This guy is a COACH. Not a used car salesman.
Talked to a guy that grew up with Pruitt...played golf...ran around together.....stayed in touch etc.....He said...Pruitt won't wow boosters at a meet and greet event.....He won't knock it out of the park at pressers....He won't impress you on a Big Orange caravan tour. But...he's a football coach. He was born and raised a football coach...Pruitt has football in his blood and he lives and breathes football.

Why on Earth would Dabo do that? He built Clemson and will go down as the Bear Bryant of Clemson. There is zero chance of him leaving Clemson imo.
Furthermore... Dabo’s whole schtick is “family” and “commitment.” His coaching staff is one of, if not THE least poached/opportunistic staffs in CFB. He’d look like a total hypocrite if he walked out on Clemson for more money.

I don't think Dabo cares about not looking like a hypocrite - he won't go to Alabama for the reasons @Lane Train 4 said, plus Clemson would match any amount of money Alabama threw at him. He is a god at Clemson and they'd move mountains to keep him.

Unless he simply can't resist the emotional call of "mama," there is absolutely no reason for Dabo to take that job - no monetary reason, not for career progression/"something to prove," etc.

I don’t think Pruitt ends up at Bama nor do I think they come after him. They will literally throw the kitchen sink at Dabo.
Which is nothing more than due diligence-- Dabo has built his own dynasty at Clemson. Why in the world would he want to leave that--original Bama guy or not--to go to Tuscaloosa under the shadow of Saban and the insanely high bar set there for success? Dabo will politely decline, and then Bama moves on to its next target (hopefully not Pruitt).

Smart move.

Most people are concerned with wins and losses. After 2 years Pruitt is 13-12. He was 6-12 at one point....
Now he's on 7 game win streak.

Moreover look at our roster. Is it FSU 1999, UT 2001, BAMA 2012 "Deep"? No.
But what you do see is almost all style of player at EVERY position.

QB (Pro style and Dual-threat) ✅
RB( speed and power) ✅
WR( speed and size) ✅
OL( Size and talent) ✅
DL (size and talent)✅
LB (speed, versatility, and size)✅
DB (speed, talent, physicality) ✅
None of our position groups are in the lower half of the conference imo.

In other words we have a variety of ways to win a ball game. We will be able to run at will sometimes. We will be able to take the top off the defense sometimes. We will be able physically dominate other olines. We we will be able to shut down most rushing attacks. We will be able to get pressure on most teams in the pass game. Our secondary will match up with almost every team except Bama's WR- who btw is picked to win it all this year.

We have and all-conference type player at every level on defense, and tons of potential in our run game and young QBs.

Pruitt got us better and will continue to do so. Pay him!

I would be shocked if Dabo follows the guy. He might after one or two follow the guy. Clemson is top dog in the ACC and right now there's not a close 2nd to Clemson. Until and that's down the road a few years, somebody challenges Clemson you can pretty much pencil in Clemson in the 4 team playoffs.

Read somewhere that Dabo burned all his bridges at Bama when he started trying to out them for recruiting violations a while back. Plus why would he leave his empire for an equal position?

Both him and his wife were raised in Alabama. He played for Bama as a WR (1990-1992) and graduated there with a degree. He has a lot of ties to that school, not to mention Bama can match Clemson’s salary.

There’s a chance he could stay at Clemson but it’s not unrealistic for him to give Bama a serious look.

I also thought it was a bit premature, but if you read the GoVols247 article Pruitt was set to be the 2nd-lowest paid coach in the SEC next year. Only Derek Mason would make less money. Mike Leach and Lane Kiffin, first year head coaches, were going to make more. You can't have your head ball coach look like he is less valued than other programs. It's just a small extension, and it's more of a gesture of goodwill than anything else.
