Pruitt expected to coach Alabama in playoff

Doug Matthews said on 104 .5 the zone that when Kirby left, he set up a separate office for Kirby so he could recruit and do what he needed to do for Georgia while he was assisting with the championship playoffs. He thought the same thing would happen with Jeremy.

I don't like it.

It shows where his loyalty lies, it's with bama. Otherwise, he would start immediately on his new job and it would be his priority and 100% devotion. So are we just going to be coachless until after the first of year? Pruitt will be game planning, practicing, etc. He's not going to have time to focus on building a staff, meeting his new team, recruiting, etc.

Either you're all in or you're all out to me. Especially if it's bama we are talking about.

If our last coaches hadn't have sucked so badly, they would have been multitasking as well. They'd have been recruiting and preparing for a bowl game. So, maybe it's not as big a deal to prepare for the playoffs while recruiting for UT?

I will give our fanbase a bit of grace here. Maybe we just need to get used to having decent coaches.

This is different. Assistants need to be named. Other roles in the football program may change. All those impact recruiting.

Bama will be fine - Tennessee needs the attention.

Totally agree. And if he misses out on the better assistants because he is not able to concentrate on building his staff until January - that will be another sore spot.

Working both sounds fine on paper - but Saban will want him to be 100%, Tennessee will want him to be 100% - no way he can do that - so he is either 50/50 or one side loses.

I kind of wish I could see be there to see it though. Saban sees Pruitt on his phone. A few minutes later he gets a text saying a recruit has decommitted. *side eye stare* It's like a bad marriage, except you know the partner is cheating.

Yep. Maybe Clemson will hang 40 points on them.

Wait....

You do realize that he IS going to be the next coach. I know that it puts us in this weird predicament of pseudo-pulling for Bama, but come on. You want the guy who is coming here to be the HC to fail miserably during the playoffs for a huge audience (which includes prospective commitments) because you are mad he is coaching them?? The rationale is beyond me.

That being said I am hoping for a 3-0 win for Clemson!

Big conflict of interest.

typical. Vols getting hosed again. Saban wins again.

Cutcliff bolted in 98 but this guy gets to hang around and coach our biggest rival to another national championship... makes sense. smh

Pruitt is just showing class! Its like working out a 2 weeks notice. He will be recruiting for UT But wants to finish his commitment to the kids and to Saban who is a big part of how he landed this job.Saban dosent have the strained relationship with Jeremy that he had with lane. So lighten up! He has character amongst the other great qualities he is bringing with him to VOLNATION!

Or...

When he is sitting in the living room of an 18 year old 5* who is choosing between us, Bama, and Florida he can say, " You can trust me. I AM committed to you to see this through. I will not bolt on you without supporting you first. Come to Tennessee and I will show you true commitment and family."

Him staying gives:
-Exposure to the program. (He will be mentioned often)
-Credence because of his already won NC's
-Shows actual commitments to his recruits (not just BS)

Honestly, if this were anyone other team besides Bama (or maybe Florida) I just don't see the hubbub.

There was no early signing period 2 years ago. We have Cade and Alonte who where the foundation of the class and EE's by the way, uncommitted at the time. So, this is an entirely different situation. Especially for us, who cares about UGa or Bama's classes.

Phil coached Cades dad. He has already been to see them. Every thing will be alright. The sky is not falling.

That Clemson Alabama game will be interesting. IMO it will NOT be a rout. More of like last year. Winner takes the game by 10 points or fewer. I hope Clemson wins to deny Satan another title and then how many more chances does he get?? The playoffs this year will be interesting!!

I hope Clemson wins 2-0.

Can't wait to see our future coach all over the broadcast in full bammer gear. Should be a huge recruiting boost

My serious question is if he stays and for some reason Clemson does drill them (don't think they will but you never know) does this change people's opinion of him on this board. Also, if it happens does it make Cade Mays go ahead and commit to Clemson?

Not a fan of this. Not a good way to start your tenure with Tennessee.

No, its not.

Its not the end of the world obviously, but come on. After everything we as fans have been through, especially this season and this coaching search, it all ends, and begins like this?

Im allowed my opinion. My opinion is I don't like it. At all.

Seems like the playoff is til the end to me, so yes the NC game too.

I get it. People want him here now, and if it were any other school (save for Florida) we might be willing to give it more of a pass.

That being said, he is contractually obligated. He has commitments to those kids. And I think what I like most is Nick Saban wants him to stay through the playoffs instead of immediately starting his new gig with us. That says to me that Saban is that confident in his abilities as a coach that he doesn't want to lose him for this important time. Looking back to last year that was not the case with Kiffin...I understand they hate each other but by a few accounts Pruitt is not one to hold back from Saban.

All that to say I don't like it either, but it is something that I respect.

I 100% agree with you. I don't like it but I do like a person that sticks by their commitment. I hope he can do both for this short time. We have recruits that definately need to be reached out to; and some in person before early signing. If he knows who his OC and DC is gona be they can be doing this until playoffs are over, and Pruitt will have to suck it up and make personal visits when necessary during this time. And when playoffs are over have this same type of commitment to Tn.

This isn’t All Pruitt

This is Saban flexing his muscle and realizing that having smart juggle both cost them a ring if I remember correctly

Or in the back of kids minds, they're constantly waiting on him to bolt back to Alabama the second Saban retires. We have no idea if this is a commitment to his kids or to his potential dream job.

I wonder if Georgia fans threw a bunch of whinny fits over Kirby when he stayed to coach bammer.

I would venture to say that UT will get attention and our new head coach will take whatever steps necessary to set himself up for success.

I state it that way b/c you guys seem to question his loyalty to UT. Well, he has a certain loyalty to himself as well, and he'd be a HUGE idiot to set himself up for failure in his first HC gig. I mean, if he's that much of an idiot, it was doomed all along anyway.

He will split duties. He will suffer personally for a few weeks to set himself/us up for success while not bailing on his current players.

From a rivalry perspective, I "hate" Bama as well. But I'm also an adult, so I can contextualize the rivalry part of my vocabulary.

He'd get exposure regardless, IE Kiffin last year. In fact he'd get MORE exposure especially if their defense doesn't play well... "They're missing Pruitt tonight..." And it would be great to play a role in Alabama losing a shot at another championship.

On this "he's keeping his commitments" crap... what about the assistants coming... are they gonna keep their word at their respective schools and stay through their respective bowls?? Where does it stop? No they're gonna come, and Pruitt should too. Huge issue.
