If our last coaches hadn't have sucked so badly, they would have been multitasking as well. They'd have been recruiting and preparing for a bowl game. So, maybe it's not as big a deal to prepare for the playoffs while recruiting for UT?
I will give our fanbase a bit of grace here. Maybe we just need to get used to having decent coaches.
Totally agree. And if he misses out on the better assistants because he is not able to concentrate on building his staff until January - that will be another sore spot.
Working both sounds fine on paper - but Saban will want him to be 100%, Tennessee will want him to be 100% - no way he can do that - so he is either 50/50 or one side loses.
Yep. Maybe Clemson will hang 40 points on them.
typical. Vols getting hosed again. Saban wins again.
Cutcliff bolted in 98 but this guy gets to hang around and coach our biggest rival to another national championship... makes sense. smh
There was no early signing period 2 years ago. We have Cade and Alonte who where the foundation of the class and EE's by the way, uncommitted at the time. So, this is an entirely different situation. Especially for us, who cares about UGa or Bama's classes.
That Clemson Alabama game will be interesting. IMO it will NOT be a rout. More of like last year. Winner takes the game by 10 points or fewer. I hope Clemson wins to deny Satan another title and then how many more chances does he get?? The playoffs this year will be interesting!!

Not a fan of this. Not a good way to start your tenure with Tennessee.
Seems like the playoff is til the end to me, so yes the NC game too.
I get it. People want him here now, and if it were any other school (save for Florida) we might be willing to give it more of a pass.
That being said, he is contractually obligated. He has commitments to those kids. And I think what I like most is Nick Saban wants him to stay through the playoffs instead of immediately starting his new gig with us. That says to me that Saban is that confident in his abilities as a coach that he doesn't want to lose him for this important time. Looking back to last year that was not the case with Kiffin...I understand they hate each other but by a few accounts Pruitt is not one to hold back from Saban.
All that to say I don't like it either, but it is something that I respect.
Or...
When he is sitting in the living room of an 18 year old 5* who is choosing between us, Bama, and Florida he can say, " You can trust me. I AM committed to you to see this through. I will not bolt on you without supporting you first. Come to Tennessee and I will show you true commitment and family."
Him staying gives:
-Exposure to the program. (He will be mentioned often)
-Credence because of his already won NC's
-Shows actual commitments to his recruits (not just BS)
Honestly, if this were anyone other team besides Bama (or maybe Florida) I just don't see the hubbub.
This is different. Assistants need to be named. Other roles in the football program may change. All those impact recruiting.
Bama will be fine - Tennessee needs the attention.
