Pruitt expected to coach Alabama in playoff

Playoffs? You talkin about Playoffs? Forget the dang playoffs, this gives Saban an opportunity to scout out the Pruitt defense for the upcoming matchup in October when they will face each other. Unfair advantage in my opinion.

What?!?!?! He has literally coached with the man for what 4 or his 7 years as a defensive coach? I think Saban knows the scheme. And that is a two way street argument.

Fulmer knows what it takes to recruit. Don't think for a minute that furious recruiting isn't going on while you are reading this. Also, do you want a players coach? He cares enough about his guys to finish what he started with them. This bodes well for his attitude and should carry over to UT.

So recruits are not going to Florida, A&M, etc. because Mullen and Fisher did not finish what they started? You seriously believe that?

Agree Kirby did t deal with early enrollee stuff but Matthews said Bama actually set him up an office where he could go and work solely on transition stuff to UGA. Also said Bama gave him 3-4 assistants to help. He wanted to finish his commitment to the team but still get his new job rolling so it’s a compromise

The GA comparison really needs to stop. If you think Smart and Pruitt are walking into similar situations, you're delusional. One was loaded with talent, and it isn't UT. Also, no early signing period when Smart transitioned. If you're fine punting a class, then cool, but let's not pretend that's going to get buy in from the fanbase.

It will get buy in, just not from a few whiners.

I didn't word that good. I'm talking the players currently playing for Pruitt. He's been through the season with them and doesn't want to abandon them now. I get that. Fulmer does too. Some here are pizzed, but I don't see the harm in it, and potentially a lot of good - Players want to be around sucessful coaches. This is a feather in his cap a will players should flock to him like moths to a porchlight.

Promise not to whine when we lose out on a recruit or an assistant.

Promise not to whine if one of those playoff teams puts 50 on Bama and folks say it is because Pruitt is not all in and concentrating on Tennessee. And then bad mouths Tennessee again.

The down side could be significant. That is all the whiners are trying to point out.

Guys, guys, guys... calm down! Fulmer and Pruitt has got this. I’m sure that they have discussed the recruiting, playoffs, and establishing a staff together all at the same time. Let him coach with his current team, and then we will get it together. :)

This isn’t All Pruitt

This is Saban flexing his muscle and realizing that having smart juggle both cost them a ring if I remember correctly

If that were the case, Saban would relieve him of his duties and send him to UT full time, as Pruitt will be juggling both.

Exactly...think through this,he and UT will get National PR while he's coaching in the Playoffs

If, ifs and buts were fruits and nuts, we would all have a merry Christmas.

There is also a recruiting dead period from dec 18-Jan 11. It's not going to affect recruiting.

I don't mean this personally, as we all have off moments, but... that may be the dumbest thing I am likely to read today.

Pruitt has been Saban's DC the past two years and this has been his second time on Saban's staff, yet Saban is keeping him around to learn his tendencies as a DC?

Did I get teleported into a Adam Sandler movie?

Pruitt has to get after the kids who will sign in 13 days. He has to assemble a staff. He has to evaluate the current roster. He has to work on the rest of class that will sign in February. He has to immerse himself in Tennessee football.

He cannot be great at preparing for the bama games AND doing the things that need done for Tennessee. One is going to suffer.

Men are not great at multitasking. :(

I Just don't agree with Pruitt coaching for bama in playoffs. There is sooooooo much that needs to be done here. Unacceptable move by Fulmer in my opinion. It's a good way to get off to a bad start with a lot of fans riding the fence on this hire.

If the numbers being reported are true, around $4 million for six years, we got him cheap. Everyone else is going way higher for head coaches. If he's successful here, someone will try to double his salary down the road. If it's Bama, that's home to him.

I just hope that he is completely disconnected from Alabama until the early signing period ends. That's the only way that this works on us on any level.

I don't like it, but I am behind Pruitt. But this really isn't a good way for this new coaching staff to get off on the right foot and set us up to rebuild the shambles the program is in and salvage something out of the recruiting class. There's a lot of work to do and little time to do it in. Color me skeptical that this will work out for us (as far as the Pruitt staying to coach with Bama for a bit)

It is an odd situation. I would be willing to bet that Saban tries to find a new DC asap and part ways before hand. He is not going to want JP to poach any current players from next years class to UT. I have a feeling we flip 1 or two of AL's commits with this hire.

I honestly think Pruitt may be a great hire. He has a far better pedigree than the last 3 coaches for UT. My frustration revolves around us being in another trap situation. Everything about Pruitt screams Alabama lifer. If he's successful, he seems about 75% likely to pull a Kiffin. If he's not, then its likely because the administration refused to spend to get him the staff and upgrades necessary. The candidate may be better, but the hire looks way too similar to the last decade.

Yea. I get that. Its a valid worry, and I have it too. I think the Lane Kiffin type bolt is unlikely. Saban (unfortunately) has some years left in him and Pruitt will be at a high profile job in coaching at Tennessee. So seems to me the earliest he would exit is at least 5 years from now (barring him actually being awful). I think Saban has got 7-8 left in him, and think the NFL ship has passed though there are some reports he is interested.

As far as staff...it sounds like his deal is somewhat smaller so he can get an A+staff.
