Pruitt coaching for his job vs BYU.

I think Fatty fires Pruitt and steps back in.

I’ll take it. Peanut doesn’t appreciate Tennessee football, the legacy, the history. He’d apologized to the fans & former players yesterday if he did. Imagine the hell he’d go thru if he did this crap as HC at bama? You think you’d get “sun coming up tomorrow” ********? Hell no.

LOL. SHEEP.
LOL... for most of the year I've been called too impatient because I scoffed at those who said he should get more than 3 years before showing serious improvement.

If they don't make changes and do not improve... then I'm on board.

Do you know how stupid you sound pretending that crap like this doesn't happen when a coach inherits a roster like UT's?

I've consistently been one to say that Pruitt should be given no more than three years to prove something. I don't remember where you stood but there were MANY who said that was unrealistic... now they seem to have the pitchforks out.

IMHO, the decisions Pruitt makes right now about who he starts and who he builds the program around will seal his fate. If I were him... JG wouldn't start another game. I'll take the mistakes a Fr might make over the mistakes a RS Jr keeps making.

After 18 months in this vaunted S&C program our Dline got pushed around and our O line got manhandled....by Georgia St. Let me repeat Georgia St.

Name one coach who has had even middling success that has a historic loss like this one on their resume. You can blame CBJ all you want but this is Pruitts team now and has been for 18 months. If he cant get his **** together enough to beat a Georgia St program who had 2 wins last season he isnt going get this team to ever compete with SEC caliber teams. There is an abundance of talent on the UT roster when compared to Georgia St. Claiming there isnt enough talent to beat middle of the pack SEC teams has some validity. Claiming there isnt enough talent to beat..Georgia St is asinine.

2-5 isn't a ton better than 1-6. Barring some unforeseen spark (like a new qb or something) it's hard to see more than 4 wins.

Then you have to make some tough decisions. Who would come? Short of some crazy pitch to Peyton I don't see anyone coming that could create a spark. Then you're back to taking risks on coordinators or gambling on some small school coach.

I can't see an easy path to being competitive again.

Hire the best HS coach in Tennessee lol. It is a massive pay upgrade to go from around ~ $ 60k a year to ~ $ 1 Million.

I keep seeing the same play in my head... looked like a school yard game of football. TN on D was scattered everywhere and just running around, no focus on the ball carrier, who was weaving his way through the kiddos.

Make it stop.... oh, there it goes again, and we ain't gonna grab his flag this time either.

We’re all free to like or dislike Phill / want him here or not. However in my lifetime he is the sole reason we complain now.......because of the success he brought. For me I’ll give him a bit more leeway.......especially given what he walked into.

Actually Robert Neyland is the reason we complain. He built our program. Johnny Majors rebuilt after a short downturn in the late 70s and early 80s. Johnny struggled with alcoholism and we hired Fulmer to replace him. Fulmer never rebuilt a program. Johnny Majors handed him a successful program. Fulmer is great but don't act like he is UT football. Neyland is UT football.

Yesterday's loss is completely unacceptable and there is no excuse for coming into an opening game not ready to play. That said, I am waiting until the BYU game to make a decision about this teams prospects. I think what Ryan Leaf said during the game may have some merit. He said he thought the UT staff was taking the game way to lightly and they seemed to think it would be a glorified scrimmage. Of course, that is an inexcusable mistake and it may prove to not even be true. If they did though, we may play much better against BYU. I am not defending Pruitt but I want to see one more game before I completely write them off. I sincerely hope the head coach just made a dumb mistake by taking them too lightly and will learn from it. I think I will know the answer next Saturday night.

FWIW Chris Low picked Tennessee to beat BYU on The Nation tonight saying that he expected the team to play immensely better. Went on to say that if Tennessee doesn't win next week, the season will get very, very ugly.

There's a near certainty that Pruitt and the staff aren't the problem. He inherited roster problems. He doesn't have SEC caliber DL's and hasn't had time to build them. He has a QB who wilts when the lights come on. He has an OL that can't seem to find a block.

IMHO, he should shake the depth chart up and play for the future. But he has to make that call. It is his job to keep or lose.
I realized this midway through last season. Until the Vols can field SEC caliber O and D linemen and develop them they’ll continue to get beaten like step children. Maybe this is why I’m apathetic. Deep down I knew Pruitt’s rebuilding job was another two recruiting classes away. He’s had one since then and we’ll see if he can hold on to the 2020 recruits

Give me a damn break. Unless you are 120 years old you didn't watch Neyland. Majors sucked for 10 years and then laid the ground work for Fulmer , but he couldn’t get over the hump. Fulmer broke through and won it all. Fulmer is the best coach at the university of Tennessee during the modern era. End of story.

As sad as this seems I believe this is the truth. If we roll into Gainesville 1-2(assuming we beat utc) he plays Florida, Georgia, Mississippi state, and Alabama. Sitting at 1-6 and given how the team seemingly gave up the last two games last season he could lose them again and not win another game. You will see a man coaching for his job Saturday, if they beat BYU maybe they can turn the season around and get 6 or 7 wins. If they lose to BYU I think you see the players give up and we will be searching for a new head coach after this season. Here’s to hoping we beat the Mormons.

Hard to think we could lose every game, but that is now a realistic consideration.

Considering that we’re the king of coach buyouts I think they’ll be ok with Pruitt for awhile to relieve some financial stress.

Our 3rd string has more talent than GA State starters. There is no excuse for yesterdays loss. It falls solely on Pruitt. Yesterday was bad. I mean really bad.
How u doing today hoss ? I can't for the life of me wrap my head around this one . With all the o-line changing , lining up wrong . Two DE on the same side of the field and u don't call a timeout . Running a player onto the field late so they can snap the ball with us out of position and take it to the house . 5 rushing attempts in the second half ...... I swear I know Pruitt is a better coach than that . It's almost like they tried to loose the game . I just don't understand it man . This one almost caused me to loose faith on my beloved Vols ... My only hope is maybe MAYBE this is a wake up call to everyone involved .

Well I was speaking for “my adult lifetime.”
Neyland surely built the program; however I’m not too sure many on here experienced Tennessee football during his time.

Majors certainly got things moving again, after other coaches had some success and failures. However I can’t say Majors ever got Tennessee to the consistent level of success as did Fulmer.

In Fulmers first 13 years he only had 3 that were not at least 9 wins, and all 3 of those were 8 win seasons. In those 13 seasons 7 of them were 10 win or better. In his final 4 seasons he had 2 5 win seasons a 9-4 & a 10-4 season. In his second to last season he took Tennessee to an sec championship game and Tennessee finished ranked 12th......when’s the last time those two things have happened?

Sure there were people on vol nation in the 60’s complaining about coaches and wishing for the general to return; however most of those folks are probably not on here.

Again “most” of us can complain now days because of what Fulmer accomplished at Tennessee.

152-52 with a NC. What the hell have we done since. The hatred for the greatest coach at the university in most of our lifetimes is absurd. (152-52) since (62-64).
Don’t worry. He’ll be back under the headphones soon.
