Pruitt coaching for his job vs BYU.

No coach at any school deserves to be fired that quickly but he has to make it right this year or he might as well leave. Already lost.a majority of the fanbase and the media is slowly turning. Recruiting will go in a spiral soon. He has to fix this.

It's time for Coach Pruitt to man up! He needs to look at the game film and identify the players not performing to standard (rotten apples in the barrel) ! These players have been shown what to do over and over! Identify the few rotten apples in the barrel and clean out their lockers!!! Once players have demonstrated in practice what they are supposed to do in the game and do not perform as shown, they need to be cut. They are the cancer within the team!!!
It all begins and ends with JG. Pruitt tried to wet nurse him and the gamble backfired big time. Now it’s gonna take a big pair to do what’s needed to fix this hot mess before it collapses our entire season.

I think he is making that call and shaking it up already. He's on the fast track but we fans need to realize he's in between a rock and a hard spot. There's no easy way out and one reason is time. The NCAA doesn't allow much time to practice or not in our case anyway to be able to do all that's needed. The fanbase is going to be critical of Pruitt no matter what at this point. We have some good players but they are nowhere near being developed to play in this league. We still need 2 more recruiting classes to start to be competitive. In short, patience is required and we as fans want it now. It isn't gonna happen.

A Freshman & sophomore SEC class full of 3, 4 & 5 star should beat any Sunbelt bottom dweller. These players are Pruitts and he has had the whole team for 2 years. Time needed maybe to compete the upper crust SEC but this is bottom of barrel D1 team 4th worst last year out of 10 teams. They had 1 D1 non Power 5 and 1 FBS win last year. This was their first ever Power 5 win. SAD

Why can't the fans be supportive of this staff? They made a huge mistake overlooking Ga.St. in an attempt to keep rotating linemen and fiqure out who to start. This needs to end now. Pick the best 5 and roll with it. Same on the defensive side where there seems to be less hope currently. Starting freshmen is alright in the more skilled positions but down linemen are not going to fare well in his league until they bulk up some and gain in-game experience. By picking the best 5 and allowing them to play together for long stretches I think we can develop a chemistry at a faster pace. D.Wright has been in pads for 3 weeks and he's 5 star. No way he's gonna meet lofty expectations right off the bat. There are like scenarios over over this team. Ga,St. went right at Burrell because he's new also. We're stuck with growing pains and there's no way around it. Add to the dilemna that JG sure didn't display any improvement as many expected under Chaney and it could be a long season. This talk of coaching change is going to have a negative impact on recruiting eventually and that's gonna cause even much slower rebuilding. It's best we remain loyal as fans at this point. We've already witnessed the fact that no coach wants to be here except to get a big check and they're going to set the recruiting efforts back another year when you make a major change. The smarter posters on this board aren't even posting now and one reason is they've repeatedly stated that this process is going to require 3-4 years to get back on track and we need to be patient.
Supportive of this staff? Just one bad game? If you’re satisfied with emotionless zombie players and coaches getting beatdown by a Sunbelt team in our own backyard with a starting QB totally mismatched with the strengths of our O then good for you bro!

As for me I grew up with TN teams that played with fire and passion even when we were outmatched. I’ll support this staff and team as long as they play inspired football and play the BEST players at ALL positions regardless of seniority. But I don’t support AT ALL what I saw saw last night.

Funny. I thought this was his second year. One game in and this constitutes two full years? Silly to think we'd allow the man to build a full roster before we judge him.

Why?

We’re just going back to the bargain bin to find another 4 million dollar loser.

That's his buyout if he leaves. His buyout for being fired without cause is 60 percent of remaining salary. He's signed at 3.8 til Jan 31st 2024. So we'd owe him 60 percent of 15.2 million if we fired him at the end of the season. 11.4 million if he was fired today without cause, just over 9 if he's fired after the season ends.

Yep, you are correct. My mistake and a multi-million dollar one. Thanks for the correction.

We didnt play an SEC team yesterday...WTF are you talking about. Do you have any idea how damn stupid you sound pretending a decent coaching couldnt beat Georgia St with the talent in this roster.

CJP has zero business being a head coach at UT.
Do you know how stupid you sound pretending that crap like this doesn't happen when a coach inherits a roster like UT's?

I've consistently been one to say that Pruitt should be given no more than three years to prove something. I don't remember where you stood but there were MANY who said that was unrealistic... now they seem to have the pitchforks out.

IMHO, the decisions Pruitt makes right now about who he starts and who he builds the program around will seal his fate. If I were him... JG wouldn't start another game. I'll take the mistakes a Fr might make over the mistakes a RS Jr keeps making.

The first thing you have to do is find a leader that the team will rally around. That should be your RS Jr QB... but it does not appear to be.

Disagree. If it takes 2 more recruiting classes then he isn't going to make it. He has to figure out how to win with this roster and this talent. He doesn't have to win the SEC. He DOES have to figure it out better than he did against GSU.

I don't think the staff was the problem for this game... if they keep doing the same things and losing these games... then they ARE the problem. Pruitt's eyes better be open and if he takes a risk on sticking with some of the guys starting now... I think he'll sink.

As sad as this seems I believe this is the truth. If we roll into Gainesville 1-2(assuming we beat utc) he plays Florida, Georgia, Mississippi state, and Alabama. Sitting at 1-6 and given how the team seemingly gave up the last two games last season he could lose them again and not win another game. You will see a man coaching for his job Saturday, if they beat BYU maybe they can turn the season around and get 6 or 7 wins. If they lose to BYU I think you see the players give up and we will be searching for a new head coach after this season. Here’s to hoping we beat the Mormons.
You got $12-13 mill just for his buyout and no telling how much more for the assts while we are still paying Botch?

We do not need two more recruiting classes to beat Ga freaking State.

From the standpoint he cant lose the BYU game, I'd agree.

Winning it is not gonna move the needle much the other direction.

1 year and a game in all you have is hope. It's not based in much today, but if he doesnt or cant figure it out it's a massive setback going forward. We ve used up too many of those lately.

I gave you a like....but IMO CJP's biggest problem yesterday was JABBA his OC....

Another poster said it--but it looked like JABBA showed up to call a scrimmage game in while on a Sunday afternoon drive...

Defense is mostly EFFORT....and those guys didn't give it.... And I don't have an answer for why that is.....

Maybe this team has a bunch of pansies who don't "appreciate" hard coaching.....

I sat in the south end zone, and watched as Guarantano consistently missed wide open receivers down the field and checked down to people who were covered. It’s like he makes his mind up where he is going with the ball before he takes the snap and that’s where he goes. I’ve probably been one of Guarantano’s biggest supporters, but yesterday he had time, and he had open receivers and he didn’t get the ball to them. I hope it clicks vs BYU...

No, but if they win 3 games then you will see Neyland about half full, and the people who do have that kind of money will gladly pay his buyout. That being said I hope Pruitt can rally his team and kick BYU’s ass Saturday.

Yesterday wasnt about lack of talent. When UGA and Bama name their score you can lean on that.

It was about a lack of attention to the next game. The game plan on both sides and musical chairs in personnel are the evidence and the players are standing around waiting for Ga St to falter and quit and that never happened. Then our inexperience in knowing how to win set in and the panic ensued.

If (and it's just my speculation at this point) the staff was "over confident" in where this team and personnel were before the season started , that was an epic blunder that will be extremely hard to get over.

Fixing this was a large task that Pruitt may not have been able to handle even with the best available circumstances. He made that substantially harder yesterday.

How do you know this? Did the BOT tell Fulmer if Pruitt don’t work out then he’s out of a job too?

Fulmer has to go if Pruitt can’t turn this around. Guy has already run the program into the ground once and you want to give him time to do more damage?

I need to correct my error. The 5 mil dropping to 4 mil in December is what Pruitt would owe UT is he moved on to another job. If fired without cause UT would owe him 60% of his yearly salary x number of years remaining on his contract. Current buyout would be over $9 Million (.6 x3.8x4 = 9.12). Almost double what I previously posted. Sorry for the confusion.

Pay the $9 mil and get rid of this *******.

I love Kiffin and thats one coach who would totally take the job knowing Chaney has a buyout also. However Fulmer would never go for it after being fired and Kiffin replaced him and Kiffin went out of his way to be over the top getting Johnny Majors involved on campus. To the fans that was great but to Fulmer hima nd Majors while have spoken finally they arent friends...... like at all.
There’s absolutely no evidence that Kiffin would do well here. Good coordinator but all evidence points to a mediocre head coach so far.
