As sad as this seems I believe this is the truth. If we roll into Gainesville 1-2(assuming we beat utc) he plays Florida, Georgia, Mississippi state, and Alabama. Sitting at 1-6 and given how the team seemingly gave up the last two games last season he could lose them again and not win another game. You will see a man coaching for his job Saturday, if they beat BYU maybe they can turn the season around and get 6 or 7 wins. If they lose to BYU I think you see the players give up and we will be searching for a new head coach after this season. Here’s to hoping we beat the Mormons.

2-5 isn't a ton better than 1-6. Barring some unforeseen spark (like a new qb or something) it's hard to see more than 4 wins.

Then you have to make some tough decisions. Who would come? Short of some crazy pitch to Peyton I don't see anyone coming that could create a spark. Then you're back to taking risks on coordinators or gambling on some small school coach.

I can't see an easy path to being competitive again.

There's a near certainty that Pruitt and the staff aren't the problem. He inherited roster problems. He doesn't have SEC caliber DL's and hasn't had time to build them. He has a QB who wilts when the lights come on. He has an OL that can't seem to find a block.

IMHO, he should shake the depth chart up and play for the future. But he has to make that call. It is his job to keep or lose.

Probably not, he is already fired IMHO we just cant afford to fire him. They cannot pay him off. He has to agree to sit down and negotiate out of here. How much pain and suffering can he endure? If he agrees to negotiate out will those knuckleheads on the hill be willing to let him go without him agreeing to pay them the buyout? He has no chance of being successful here after yesterdays game all he can do is ride it out and take the money and run. Or they can pay him a smaller amount and let him hit the road and hire an assistant. Only options they have

Two questions:

1. Who will pay Jeremy Pruitt’s buyout if he flops?

2. Who could the AD get to come to a program that appears broken from the top down?

If JP is fired that means we’re looking for our 4th HC this decade. I really don’t know who would come here at this point.

Fulmer's job is tied to Pruitt. If he fires him he would not make the new hire. We're stuck with Pruitt.

Maybe it’s just me, but Fulmer came into maybe the worst coaching hire situations of all time. Not sure he can be held totally responsible if/when this all falls apart. Now if/when it does and the next decision isn’t GREAT........then it’s all on him (if he is in fact still here after Pruitt).

I agree that he inherited roster problems, but there's no way I can be convinced that we don't have enough talent to demolish a team like Georgia State. What I saw was a total lack of motivation. No fire, no urgency, no leadership. The team basically quit on Pruitt in the second half, and "quitting on the coach" is not a phrase I use lightly, but it is what it is. They quit on him last year vs. Vandy and arguably Mizzou as well. That, to me, says Pruitt and the staff are a BIG part of the problem.

No chance in bloody hell this “team” ever sniffs 6 or 7 wins I don’t care what happens vs BYU. 3 wins looks impossible right now.

I’m so sick of the talent excuse. Georgia State didn’t have a single 4 star recruit and most of their roster was made up of 2 star guys.

Honestly I hope he doesn’t get fired. That being said, What happens if his team quits on him and they win 2 or 3 games. He really needs to beat BYU. If they lose against BYU I have a feeling they will mail it in, and will be lucky to win 3 games.

We don’t have near the talent as Bama or Clemson but that’s a ridiculous take.

We had enough talent to beat Georgia St at home. Stop with the excuses.

Our 3rd string has more talent than GA State starters. There is no excuse for yesterdays loss. It falls solely on Pruitt. Yesterday was bad. I mean really bad.

There absolutely is a major coaching problem. When teams in two consecutive years quit and dont look prepared, that's on the coach......

I tend to find you knowledgeable so I'll have what you're drinking...

Exactly. The thought of firing a coach two games into a second season is lunacy. He has to be given at least 4 years if not 5 to turn the roster over and make it his. Folks talking about firing are being irrational. Just not happening.

Good grief.... The talent excuse might fly for uga, bama, uf, idk maybe most sec teams. But freaking georgia state at home?! Give me a break. No excuse for that one.

Yes, he did inherit roster problems. Are those roster problems so severe that losing to Georgia State is excusable? Absolutely not. There is no excuse for this. None.

I don’t see a scenario where Pruitt is fired. With the buyout issues, the continued cluster in UTs administration, lack booster support at all levels, and apathy of the fan base, no reputable coach will come here. I hate to say that but it’s true and has been since Mike Hamilton was given the Directors job after Dickey. These issues go back to the early part of the previous decade not long after the 2001 fiasco in Atlanta. Truth is we likely got Pruitt at least through 2020.
