The run game was bad. Not because of JG. He isn't the reason we got stopped on third or fourth and short those two games.

He shared in the blame. JG was very poor at anticipation and reading the defense early in the year. Stared down a WR on an INT that got called back in GSU game, and he threw late to JJ at the goaline on a key third down. Missed open receivers. The defense struggled against GSU because it was a brand new front 7 without Bituli, and Burrell started for Thompson.

Against BYU, JG continued his poor analysis of the defense. His TD in the first half was on a deflection. Threw a key INT into zone triple coverage to start the second half. The right side of the field was open as Callaway had beat his man. Missed several reads. You can point to the breakdown at the end, and it would have been nice for the defense to seal it, but they played well most of the game.

JG has come a long way. He was a huge part of the problem early in the year.

Indiana and GSU are two entirely different situations. Indiana will be the best team we've played since Alabama. We will have to play very well to beat them.

ESPN FPI has Kentucky, Mississippi State (before Bama game), and Missouri ahead of Indiana. Sagarin has Kentucky and Mississippi State ahead of Indiana. It’s not cut and dry.

Based on what I’ve read from a segment of the fan base, they believe this game will be a walk in the park.... It’s the same comments we read before the GSU game.

Difference is, these are "fan comments"...not player comments. We have seen growth and maturity as the season went along. IU didn't beat any team with a winning record. Doesn't mean a slam dunk for us, but I think if we come out and play a good game, we should have a good day.

Specifically, no. The WR's were solid from the start. The RB's are what they are.... an understood weakness. The OL was improved right out of the gate and have pass protected well all season. No. Not a lot of drops. Play calling? Not by a long shot.

The D needed time with a DL that had no experience. That was known. They needed an experienced QB to make plays, score points, and keep them off the field early in the season. They needed help they didn't get from their offensive team leader.

Pretty much every group played as expected and some better... except UT's 4th year QB. He stank. I give him a ton of credit for his late season recovery. If the JG we saw vs UK had played vs BYU and GSU those games would have been the laughers we expected. But he didn't. Pruitt himself said that QB play was the difference in them being a 1-3 team going into UGA rather than a 3-1 team.

Good question, and a reasonable question based on the number of posts regarding bowl game and recruiting. It appears we have a large number of five star players waiting to commit to UT, as long as we have a big Bowl Game Win. Then there is the school of thought that says, "We are on a roll, and will keep rolling-rolling-rolling-until we're not", in this case, a loss in a bowl game would "stop the roll". I am of the belief that SEC wins are really all that matter, we are in the SEC, we should be focused on winning the SEC Championship. If we do win the SEC everything else will take care of its self. How many powder puff games we win (so we can brag about a win, and get a low level bowl game) is okay, but SEC Wins, beating BAMA, GA, FL et.al. is where it is at. Far too many fans have forgotten that there is a SEC Championship game!

You don't bench a QB who is playing great like you seem to think. The same receivers, RB's, OL's, and defensive players continued to play. Benching a QB is on a whole different level than benching another player... yet they felt he was hurting the team so bad that playing a true Fr before he was ready was the right thing to do.

He said publicly that with better QB play UT would have been 3-1 entering the UGA game. It was discussed at the time here. If you want to be ignorant... I won't stand in your way. JG gets a ton of credit for pulling himself together and playing like they expected him to at the end of the season. But he was a primary reason or THE primary reason UT played so poorly at the beginning of the season. He couldn't move the O and score points against two teams UT should have smoked. They probably would have had a shot against UF and/or UGA in retrospect if he'd played then like he played at the end of the season.

Read again.... SLOWLY. GSU went soft at the end of the game with a two score lead. They went prevent to try to make UT drive the field and run the clock. That is why that last drive was successful where the O had floundered for about 2 quarters against a D that would go on to give up 42 to Furman, 57 to Western Michigan, 37 to Texas St, 38 to Ark St, 33 to Troy, 45 to ULM, 56 to App St, and 38 to Ga St. They were 9th in the Sun Belt in scoring D and 8th in total D out of 10 teams.... and JG couldn't move the ball against them. Their season high in sacks was against UT... and don't delude yourself into believing UT's OL was worse than most they saw in the Sun Belt.

The week after JG threw for 311 including that last drive against their prevent D... Furman threw for the same yardage with 12 ypa vs 7.8. Furman's QB threw for 4 TD's and a pick. JG threw for 1 TD and 1 INT while the game was competitive then added another as the game ended.

UT's O led by a 4th year QB kept UT's D on the field far too much... remember?

Tennessee has/had a ton of more talent than what they faced you have to know that, unless your that stupid.

They had iirc one career start among ALL of their DL's. We all knew (unless one was stupid) that the D was going to need a lot of help from the O. The O needed to score points and stay on the field. But you want to place the blame on guys who had no experience over a RS Jr QB?

Bad coaching decisions lost us the BYU game. Vols went for it 3 times on 4th down while clearly in field goal range. They converted one of those into a TD. Vols got 7 points from 3 trips deep into BYU territory instead of 9. Take the field goals every time and BYU is having to throw into the end zone on the last play instead of kicking a field goal for OT.

I think Pruitt learned his lesson b/c he took field goals against Bama and that had us in the position to make it a 1 score game in the 4th without JG going rouge.
