I know it's the interwebz and nobody cares about grammar or spelling, but does Hubbs even read the words that he puts on the page?

Have they not been hitting & going full practice up until probably this weekend? I mean if it's going to happen it's going to happen(injury). They could set out these last couple of practices & get injured 1st play of the game. That's why I say it's better for them to go ahead & go fully anyhow.

It's going to happen if it was meant to be. If they go these last 4-5 days without any contact then it could affect them going into the 1st game. I know because I have been a coach before myself but it was for 6th & 7th grade players though.

This is a different level. I just don't agree with holding them out of or avoid them getting hit for 4-5 days before the game. I wouldn't have never done that for any of my best players of mine for sure.

I trust Butch & his decisions but I'm concerned holding them out of full practice for 4-5 days could have an affect on them heading into the App State game. I say this mostly because it's the first game of the season. Thanks!

OK. We understand now. Butch isn't coaching 6th - 7th graders. He is coaching grown men that hit each other with the force of a car accident. And they are adult enough to be coached to worry about their job and not everyone else's. And to buy into what's best for the team as opposed to what appears fair for them.

So, coach will do thing differently than a middle school or rec league coach. That includes treating different players and positions differently, depending on the overall needs of the team.

Players are bigger, stronger, faster than they've ever been. Chances for injury are exponentially greater in college than high school and or junior high.

it has been 30 years since I played, and I loved it...........except for those times I got plowed over

Let me give you'll one example of why this isn't right or fair. Say Cam Sutton who starts as well is out there busting his butt off in practice & not worrying about injury or anything but he sees Hurd & Kamara wearing green jerseys to keep from getting hit. What's he thinking?

Here I am busting my tail off 4 days before the game but these 2 players are just going half-practice to keep from getting hit? How does that make him as a veteran on this team feel? What about the newcomers? How does that make them feel?

I say they should fully practice. They need to be used to being hit & in shape 100% here 4 days before the game. That's my opinion but of course nobody wants to agree with me on anything I give my opinion on here. Thanks!

This isn't rec league. You don't get participation points. Tennessee has a chance to do something special this year, and getting one of your elite RB's hurt on game week would be 1 million % worse than some players hurt feelings because they have to practice in regular jersey's and not green jersey's. Even though I doubt Cam or anybody else cares who practices and how much, as long as the team wins.

Hurd and Kamara have been hit plenty of times, since they have around 600 or 700 carries combined so far in their Tennessee career. And the comment about injuries will happen regardless is ridiculous. If you don't let players have as much contact, then that absolutely decreases there chance of getting hurt. This is not 6th or 7th grade football. This is a CFB blue blood finally having a team that can return the program to prominence and you cannot risk getting key pieces hurt. They've been hit plenty, its pointless to risk injury to them.

I really believe we will see a lot of people play Thursday night. App St quarterback played highschool ball at powerhouse Calhoun for his Dad. He was good, but he hasn't seen a defense like this I believe. Shoop will make him poop!

Agree. With the possible exception of Clemson last year. But this Tennessee D could be even better than that.

Might as well delete my VN account as I've seen it all on here now.... can't believe someone would post this to a college football forum thinking it validates their opinion that the $4 million a year coach who has a top 10 ranked team doesn't know how to properly run a practice!

Is there any more practice scheduled? Or will the next time we see the team be on GAMEDAY? Sorry if I missed it within the thread. I'll hang up and listen.

Before it's over, I don't think it'll be you doing the account deletion.

Hate to get off topic but I am deployed overseas and trying to find a way to watch the game online Thursday. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! GBO
