I really like the Lane Kiffen suggestion. Teams are built from the defense up, and Lane is a great adjuster, a good personality, and his father is one of the greatest defensive mind of the past generation.

Hey Hat. Can you give quick summary on why you think highly of Applegate? Know he doing some coaching work but hadn't seen anything about how he was doing.

tks
There are several reasons. One, he was probably the most intelligent QB of the last decade in college football. Two, he had exposure to the Patriots in his short stint in the NFL. Lastly, he has been instrumental in helping Rice move from being a terrible, option based team to a competitive, sophisticted, versatile offensive team.

....and now he will learn the ins and outs of Bama Ball!

I'm not voicing agreement with this whole idea... But there remains a possibilty, I believe, that Steve Spurrier might be considered.

I'm pretty confident Butch Davis will do just fine.
i agree. UNC is a program that has virtually no reason not to be successful. the only hangup is that it's a bball school and only a winner will drum up real support. having said that, i think w/in 3 years Davis will have that program near the top of the ACC.

as for NCSU, they got what they needed. Amato was viewed in large part as a clown and rightfully so. his teams lacked discipline and if you think Fulmer is an excuse maker, go read some of the transcripts from his Monday pressers this year. they are a real peach.

O brien will bring discipline. will he bring BCS and ACC titles? doubtful.

as for candidates for UT....i really like petrino. but now at least that seems to be a non option. i can't see gruden leaving the NFL.

the OC at USC is intriguing.

no one has mentioned paul johnson from Navy. i think he could do pretty well.

the guy from BSU? don't know....1st impression is great, but he inherited a pretty good team there.

the guy from TCU is also intriguing.

one thing is for sure, timing will be of utmost importance. if he got fired today, who realisticaly could be on the sidelines next season? don't know if there is anyone out there, o/t johnson, that really gives me the warm fuzzies.

all things being equal, you have to hand it to Bama and UNC for their timing. Bama had enough patience to wait it out during a few weeks of heave scrutinizing and UNC canned their guy during the season to make sure they got their guy.

don't know if we would be so bold to do either.

One thing to remember about Chris Petersen at Boise State: everyone was saying the same things about Dan Hawkins the last two years. How did things go for him at Colorado this year?

Story goes that his dad is a diehard Bama fan hence the name Major. Think pop would want him at UT?
I can't imagine his father would object too strenuously to his son making millions of dollars to be the head coach at a football power.

I agree. the only thing i would say to that is that i'd have to think there would be more talent at TN for him to work with in the beginning than what hawkins has at Colorado currently...

I know who should be the next coach. Jimbo Fisher (former LSU and new FSU) offense coach. This guy eat our lucnh for the past seven years and we better act fast before Bobby retires. :dance2:

Didnt he get offered a job at Alabama? I think I read something that said that recently.

Reguardless of how it happens Fulmer will not be head coach forever. So assuming he leaves within the next few years here are my candidates. Feel free to agree, laugh at or just plain disagree.

John Chavis - Id say strongest candidate, still remains DC and hands the offense over to a top notch OC hopefully. May grate some vol fans who want new blood

Jon Gruden - Vol ties, NFL is by no means a guaranteed gig even for him, takes no sh*t so discipline would be better Superbowl rings help recruit, ask Charlie Weiss

David Cutcliffe - Heir apparent? I dont think so, not as strong a recruiter as Fulmer but better coach, suffers from being one of the old boys just like Cheif

Bobby Petrino - great play caller, recruits just as well as fulmer, loyalty issues would be the biggest concern jumped from UL it seems after constantly denying he was ever interested in other jobs

Bob Stoops - could be possible, brings him closer to home, can attract 5* kids, dont think will get the Gator job soon unless Urban bolts for some reason. Has been to the big game. long shot but would be my pick.

Wild pick Chris Petersen / Bronco Mendenhall
Two of the brightest offensive minds should tennessee want a new direction in offense. Wild long shot outsiders but who knows!

If we get one of the guys on our staff I will cry.
