The projected roster (granted is inflated as UT will lose several of the fresh commits to MLB as well as portal commits) currently sits at 61 (30 returnees + 25 freshmen commits + 6 portal commits). Needless to say, UT needs to part ways with 27 to get down to the 34 man roster (+ whoever will be considered grandfathered). I’m assuming Fall roster will be 38 and cut down to 34 by 12/1/25.

Yes, I think TN will lose a few that they would like to keep.

Would imagine a great number of those cuts will come during the summer workouts

Possibly but portal closes on 7/1/25 unless you are a Grad student or impacted by a coaching change. The next 2 weeks will be chaotic and then the MLB draft in mid July ratchets it up even more.

Take notes for next year. With the huge trimming of the roster we will surely see more enter the portal. The signings will continue well into July and August. That deadline is just to announce entry.

It will be chaos. Power conferences will rob from Mid Majors (and each other) and Mid Majors will then hit up the JUCOs. Plus, NCAA still hasn’t clearly defined size of Fall rosters or who specifically qualifies as “grandfathered“ and how many you can include. It’s a mess.

This "guidance" was made public yesterday. Looks to me like the roster will have to be down to 36 by 12/1. Except..for those grandfathered players. I can't even begin to decipher that one. But it looked like anyone receiving a scholly has to be included in the 36. Anyone over that might have to be considered a walkon. But that is strictly my interpretation.

Thanks but this isn’t what I was referring to… The Fall roster which is essentially Aug - Dec and in the past there was essentially no limit. Many teams would keep 45 to 55 before cutting back to 40 before the start of the season in Feb. The new roster limit of 34 has to be declared by Dec 1st but there’s been no set limit of Fall rosters as of yet. 38 was a # discussed by the coaches association but nothing has been made official as of yet.

Gotcha, sorry, guess i looked right over your Fall roster reference and went right to the season roster. The cutdown sure is gonna be interesting to keep track of going forward. I don't envy the coaches.

For those on here a while, kinda harkens back to some of those BruinVol conversations.

Clark cannot catch. He was a catcher in name only. He struggled catching in HS and did not really catch in showcase ball. He will play corner OF or first.

Clark was on fire, at the plate, during the non-conference schedule but he struggled big. time with SEC pitching. I hope the light comes on for him next year and he can destroy SEC pitching because we need his bat in every game
