Marin, Abernathy, Clark, Newstrom all played a pretty good bit for freshman.

Hopefully they all are able to learn and really develop over the next 7-8 months and be the guys we depend on

I hope they all stay and were not upset as the playing time shrunk as the year went on.

Despite all the recent transfers, this program's success has been built on guys who waited a year or so. ( CMo, Lipscomb, etc)

Those four guys (and I think your forgot Abernathy) plus Ariel are a really good core of players to build on. I believe all five of those freshmen could be stars. I think Krenzel and Kuhns could get there with another off season of coaching by Frank. Seibert needs to come back healthy and be ready to go as a weekend starting spot may be available for him.

Alas, in this day, I would be surprised if at least 1 or 2 did not seek more PT and $$$$ elsewhere.

Vols had 21 freshmen on roster. Four of that group have already entered the portal

Jack Jones
Robinson Martin
Bryson Thacker
Ben Martin

Who knows what we can get from the guys who red shirted.

Looking at birthdates it appears the draft eligible sophs will be Manny Marin, Tegan Kuhns, and I believe Chris Newstrom.

This is what I have with the incoming class. I’m guessing Peebles goes pro and Reese comes back.

I’m confused about Ben Martin. He is listed as a member of next year’s incoming recruiting class, but was also on this roster (and transferred). Did he reclassify?

I am also not including the 2 incoming freshmen who are projected as top 15 overall picks (Carlson and Schoolcraft). No way they make it to campus.

Anyway, very rough draft, without the unknown portal additions which will obviously play a big role:

C: Stone Lawless/Brooks Wright/Trent Grindlinger/Cash Williams/Colton Denton/Chandler Jones
1B: Alex Perry/Evan Hankins
2B: Chris Newstrom/Dane Morrow

I thought only 34 roster spots? There's like 60 players on your list 🤷

IIRC, Seibert would also be a draft-eligible sophomore should he choose to go.

In addition to Carlson and Schoolcraft, I'd be pretty surprised at this point if Steele Hall makes it to campus. He's getting some solid 1st rd buzz.

I don't think that either Steele Hall or Appenzellar make it to campus. I've seen them both listed in the first round of multiple mock drafts.

SN: Billy Carlson's high school has a chance to have three players from his prep team get drafted in the first round, which is crazy.

Hopefully Tony and the staff have a pretty good idea who’s in and who’s out , the portal moves quickly so we’ll see , it’s crazy how done if these transfers from smaller schools make a huge impact ie Arkansas’s lead off guy just to name 1

I hope our freshman class doesn’t get decimated. We’re going to be a young team next year regardless.

I’m sure some will take exception with this but I would be fine if Chapman decided to move on to pro ball. He’s not consistent enough at the plate to warrant being a full time starter. I don’t think another big leap is coming from another off-season. He kind of is who he is at this point and I think we could plug a more productive player in his spot for next year through the portal.

Bargo won’t be back?

I just think Tony would want 2 experienced starters for the weekend. 1 being a lefty.
I'm guessing that they may be possibly looking for as many as 2 weekend starters in portal. They may be able to fill out the weekend rotation with returners and incoming freshman but I think they would take 2 upgrades if possible.

Don't forget that Levi Clark was a top-10 rated catcher so Lawless is not a given at #2 and Levi Clark is not an automatic corner infielder or outfielder.

Playing catcher and excelling at the bat makes a guy a more compelling draft pick so Levi may prefer wearing the gear.

It's interesting he did not play catcher all season (at least I don't remember him doing so

I’m pretty sure Clark caught a few games early in non-conference play, but once it was clear that Peebles and Lawless had a step up on him defensively, Tony looked for other places to plug Clark in. I guess we could see him return to catcher next season.

I don't see AA doing anything differently than late defensive fill in if he can't figure out how to hit. He also had about the same fielding % as Dean as much flack as Dean caught.
Clark cannot catch. He was a catcher in name only. He struggled catching in HS and did not really catch in showcase ball. He will play corner OF or first.
