*****Portal Watch

I don't see AA doing anything differently than late defensive fill in if he can't figure out how to hit. He also had about the same fielding % as Dean as much flack as Dean caught.
Clark cannot catch. He was a catcher in name only. He struggled catching in HS and did not really catch in showcase ball. He will play corner OF or first.
I think Clark needs to seriously work on hitting curves and sliders. They pitched him up and in to get to 2 strikes then consistently threw outside curve balls to get him out. I also think he needs to transition to 1B on defense.

SS Marin
2B Newstrom
1B Grimmer
LF Clark
DH Myatt
CF Abernathy
C Lawless

I Expect these 7 to get all the chances to take these positions. Add a stud OFer and and a stud IFer in the portal, positions can be altered a bit. Throw in some Freshman and let's roll. The staff is the bigger mystery imo. I have absolutely no idea there.

I think Clark could be a solid 1B. Fischer made huge strides defensively there this past year. Clark is basically the exact same build as Fischer, he’s 6’1 211 and Fischer was listed as 6’1 210. He could probably put on some muscle this off-season, too.

I’d prefer we look to the portal for a big time OF bat that can support Newstrom/Abernathy.

Fischer surprised me with how well he adapted to 1B. He played a solid 1B and his plate discipline was outstanding. I give our coaches a lot of credit for his development. Clark has the potential to be a solid 1B based on what I’ve seen. I wouldn’t be shocked to see AA hit the portal. Assume Chapman and Peebles leave via the draft…. CTV and staff will be recruiting ASAP

Assuming Kuhns doesn’t transfer, I’m not that worried about the rotation for next year. I expect him to make a big jump this off-season to improve his consistency. Seibert is going to be a stud and the next Dollander, Burns, Doyle, etc. to come through here if he heals up from his injury.

I trust Tony will find an ace in the portal to be our Friday guy then things will be solidified. Our bullpen though is going to be a lot of question marks.

He can’t hit
I think Antigua is gone as well. He just has not developed as a hitter.

Several times this year you just knew when he came to the plate that it was a free out. I like the kid and think he still has some room left before he hits his ceiling, but his hitting this year was unfortunately very bad.

We have to be better out of the pen next year if we want to make it back to Omaha.

kinda bad to have someone at 1B who can’t catch…. (I jest)

I get that you're joking....but you made me think

One thing I will say for this staff...

over three years, they developed Blake Burke from a below average defensive first baseman into a highly skilled, bad throw pickin', good glove machine!

So you don't think players should never be called out for poor play? By the way, I'm not the only one, there are plenty who do that. Have a good day

I have zero doubt Vitello, Elander, and Kivett would start a physical altercation with you over Bargo. And rightfully so.

He hit a skid toward the end of the season. Its baseball, it happens.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a kid care more than Bargo. When the season hit its low points, he was the one keeping guys going in the dugout, keeping heads up and guys locked in. There's literally not a job he won't do. Every K or groundout ripped his heart out.

So...sure, be needlessly sh!tty about it. You look super cool and we all respect your opinion more now.

How do you think the juco guys from this past year fit in for next year?
Arvidson- drafted?
Breedlove- came on during last 1/2 of season
Crabtree- can he throw enough strikes
Sharmen- Lhp out of pen
Combs- gotta be able to throw strikes
Wiggins- his injury? Can he be a submariner?
The following are not juco
Hundley- not juco, but where does he fit in
Sharp- needs weight, but shows flashes
Payne- good stuff, need lhp
Benke- will he regain form
Freshmen from this year
Kuhns?
Krenzel- Bp?
Siebert-hasn’t thrown in a long time
Abraham?
Hayse?
Strickland- big arm
Smart-is he healthy
Do any of the big time recruits make it in?
What do we get in portal

Please tell me that you haven't assigned Krenzel to batting practice?

I think Hayse and Strickland will make big jumps. Those were two guys we feared getting drafted out of high school...and might have been if they'd preferred going pro.

And it’s easy to forget that without Bargo’s mid-season streak who knows what happens with this team.

💯. Spot. On. Most of the NegaVols are the glass is half empty and don’t understand the concept of supporting the Vols win or lose.
