Well they did both come knowing a QB1 was already here for this year. So its not really out of nowhere.

Basillio also said TN isn’t gonna make some rash decision on the QB. Said they will take their time. Which is a good thing imo.

No but this is a different situation now. Not the same. Is getting a one year rental QB worth possibly losing both? Even losing one would be bad. Merk and GMac ain’t going anywhere if Heupel gets a backup QB. But one or both could leave if he gets somebody like Johnson.

Think about it. Say we get Johnson who is a good player. Then say Merk bolts. Ok that leaves with Johnson and GMac. What if Johnson gets hurt? No we are down to GMac. And then there is something else to consider. What if bringing in a bona fide #1 cause other offensive guys to leave if Merk does? It’s all easy to say oh because we got a great QB it’s all good. What if a WR and a TE said Merk is gone so am I? Regardless of what people think, we can’t just get unlimited guys in this portal period and expect them to be ready.

Heupel is in a very, very difficult spot.

TN can't go into the season with only 2 scholarship QBs obviously.
With those 2 QBs being a RS Freshman with no meaningful snaps and a true freshman who just go to campus, it wouldn't make any sense to get a lower level QB just for depth.
IMO, we need to go get the best QB we can and all three compete for the job period.

This season is not a wash and CJH won't get a pass to go 6-6 cause Nico is gone.

Hopefully we can get someone similar to what we went after w/ Hendon. 2 year starter at a good program with 2 years to play.

they must have scrapped their playbook and the coach played madden and decided to just run 5 WR verticals on 4 downs, I expect the punter to transfer out as well.

Not everyone landed elsewhere.

Just because u enter the portal doesn’t guarantee a different destination.
