I think Nico’s parents (and i put this all on his dad mostly) problem is they still think he’s the elite 5 star #1 qb in the country and they’re too biased to realize he hasn’t lived up to the hype just yet.

They still think he’s the cream of the crop.

I think they blamed all his short comings on the roster and probably accept no blame for him.

Like I said - this entire thing is cutting you nose off to spite your face. The real money comes next year in the NFL and his best chance of getting there was year three in the same QB friendly offense.

And that doesn’t even take into consideration the benefits of being a VFL. I doubt any university takes care of their VFLs as well as Tennessee. Fans and the school.

Yup, this was handled really really badly by the Iamaleavas. Other than the ensuing wash of talented players that will leave. This is definitely a blessing in long run.

Ill never fully understand the 0-60, 60-0 Nico pulled. Why he waited till day before spring game, ghosted for a 'negotiation' that never happened. This could have been done in the fall.

Classless.

Im actually a little pissed off. We can NOT afford to lose any offensive players.

Im also a bit peeved at Huep and staff for not filling the cupboard at key positions so that if something like this happened. We need more talent on campus.

Silver lining is now maybe we can afford some of that.

The family must have some doubt about his NFL prospects otherwise you’d just stay for your third year and go pro. You don’t even have to be elite to go 1st round as the NFL is desperate for QBs.

Not necessarily. They may just be short sighted and want more money now bc they feel (to clarify, I do not) he deserves it.

They definitely don’t value continuity of development. Maybe this wouldn’t have happened with better OL and WR talent around him but it’s debatable. I also don’t think he deserved more money, but this sets us back for 2025 and could domino into a worse situation if it leads other talent to leave. I think we will know shortly.

Get a veteran backup. Roll with Merk. Get him outside the pocket. Designed runs. Use TE’s middle of the field. Occasional deep ball. Run the damn ball. Play good defense. Can get 8 wins out of that.

Tennessee football will be just fine. The entire athletic program is no longer a sh*t show. Maybe leads to a worse 2025. Maybe not tho?

According to the Recruiting Forum, we have an established stud QB entering the Portal next week that will have a do not contact order and will be a Vol. For supposedly more money than Nico. Guess we will see.

Honestly, none of the QBs at non-SEC schools that would be willing to jump in the portal excitement me or look like huge guaranteed upgrades. I say just ride with Merk, and spend that money on pieces around him. Is Luke Altmeyer really some upgrade? Don’t think so.

Hendon Hooker lost his job at VT. No one was really excited about him when he transferred in.

Truthfully, we have no idea who is unhappy at their school and is working back channels to leave. Rumors are we have one ready to come. Curious to see if it's true and who it is. Guess we will know next week.

Same as when the Nico rumors first came out. NOBODY knows if it's true outside of a few in TN's circle. My guess is Heupel has a backup plan and something already in motion. This isn't Butch Jones or Jeremy Pruitt. No chance in hell he didn't see this coming. Not saying we get an elite QB, but my guess is it's an upgrade over Nico.
