Don’t think this team will be NC caliber by next season. It’s gonna take longer than that.
This team will take a step back next year. The question is if Heupel sets them up for a great 2026 or continues towards mediocrity. He did a great job taking a dumpster fire to the plateau. Climbing the mountain is a different situation. I see signs of stubbornness though.

Guys like Masai Reddick, Trevor Duncan, Brian Grant, and Nathan Robinson; I'll be interested if these guys portal simply because you never hear anything about them.
Robinson is highly thought of by the staff. He could be in the rotation next year. Doubt he leaves.

Duncan just moved to OT and it’s a little early too judge his progression, but maybe.

Reddick and Grant, I’m surprised they’re still here.

Dane Key was a perfect WR to target. A true jump ball WR is what we’re missing and he does it as good as anyone in the country. Would be an easy out for Nico next year. But yet he lands at Nebraska of all schools. Doesn’t. Make. Sense.
Never wanted Key. He isn’t very good.

I think we see some OL enter after spring naturally. Competition open for everyone past the top 5-7 assuming Thompson is a Vol. Naturally some will lose out and be pushed down the depth chart, but they have the chance to earn a spot in the two-deep this offseason, so I assume we could see some more then

My wife works for a guy who played at Ohio State.
He says the same thing. And he’s right. They have plenty of talent to win it but a coach that is a poor motivator.

He also thinks that if we had gotten off the field when the face mask was called and then we scored that the team would have quit. He thinks they are very fragile right now……finishing every conversation we have with “I hope I’m wrong “

That facemask to extend that drive was so huge. So huge. I know we couldn't cover their WRs (best group in FBS by far) but if we stop em on that first drive, it would have been a different ballgame at least until halftime...with us getting the ball to start the 2nd half and not shell shocked on defense. That play was so huge...the 3rd play of the game.

Agree. I think the LB issue will be addressed with the development of Spillman and Carter, plus the freshmen.

The other positions need some help from the portal.
Wonder why Spillman didn’t play against OSU? Maybe he did get a few snaps and I didn’t see him?

I get that play was huge..... But it was just one play. In every other play of that game we looked like the JV going up against varsity.

I have faith we can rebound. I think we need to shed a couple of coaches and bring in some fresh offensive minds but I still believe....... But that doesn't change the fact we looked like a team that didn't belong in that game.

Bishop is well ahead of where Small was during his development.

He averaged more ypc this season than Small did at any point during his career.
Small ran for 792 yards (5.7 ypc), 9 Tds his sophomore year splitting carries with Evans and Wright. Bishop ran for 455 (6.1) 3 TDs this season (sophomore year). Who you taking?

This helps illustrate imo why Sampson didn’t get the recognition we thought he deserved this year. RBs naturally feast in this offense. Especially when defenses are dedicated to playing light boxes.

Really hope Lewis, Baker, or Morris prove to have game breaking ability to pull a defender back in the box.
