Most players and teams that are scrambling in the spring portal are scrambling because they are desperate. We aren't scrambling anymore (minus the Nico situation), this is likely a very good thing.

They still should have gotten another 1-2 in the fall portal. Even if it was someone like Amari. We could have gotten a couple
more young guys sitting the bench at a Power 4 and had them for depth. And it wouldn’t have cost a large sum of money. I am sure the coaches have learned from this experience. Elarbe and Alec have done a nice job this last year in getting good players to stay and getting get depth. Even if it cost us some $$$. I am hoping Pope either hits the road or learns a hard lesson from this past year. I don’t put the QB mistake on Hazle or Heup. Nico is just a POS and his family
is money hungry and screwed us.

Imagine skipping out on getting a ton of snaps at Tennessee and graduating as a VFL to chase a bag and end up at your third school where no one will remember you because you were a one year rental.

This kid isn’t someone a team is gonna break the bank for.

Whatever…. Farooq and Beasley time. Let’s roll.

We aren’t looking for a roster full of starters, they are. We have a pretty good 2-deep. Why would we make promises and spend big money on guys who will be backups for us???

I like how we are building a team while still on restrictions thru probation. Our last game was a college playoff game and you would think we just ended our year at 6-6 or something. Got what should've been a 5 star QB last cycle and arguably the number 1 QB for next year's class committed. We also got a great TE we took from Oregon and the number 1 OT but Tennessee and this staff suck at recruiting because we don't have as much funds for guys looking for that last bag in the portal?

We could use another wide receiver or two but we WANT the young guys to play and the guy from BYU wanted to start and as a wide out he is not better than Matthews, Staley, Smith, Jackson or Brazille. Better returner for sure but we have that covered.

UCF boards have told us he sucks since day 1 yet we have had our best 3 year run in decades with the probation and distraction and should've been in the playoffs 2 of the last 3 years. I really do not think we deserve the great coaches we have. If we do not make the CWS, some of you will be saying Tony V needs to go as well. We have some really stupid people in this fan base. I know others do as well but would think the ones who post in here a lot would not fall into the fringe part of our base.

Swain sounded very disappointed in the WR situation today. We know the reasons we aren't adding in the Spring (depth WRs want starter money). I think he's even more down on the development. Talked about Thornton basically being one of the few WRs his size to run that fast...mentioned Calvin Johnson as one of the others. He was talking about how the passing game has went down since 22 and it wasn't all QB related...he's been saying how we need better WR play for the last couple years.

I guess this year will be Pope's prove it year. If they don't perform this year then I don't see any reason he should be retained.

Yeah I heard that segment as well and it honestly made me switch it off, not out of disgust but just kind of indifference at this point. Not that I necessarily disagree with Swain but it just seems like there’s always something getting in the way of the program becoming consistently elite again. I’ll still get sucked in this fall though I’m sure.

It’s also a consistent thing that everyone surrounding the program is always looking for the negative. Always. Including many fans here.

Idk if Swain is like that bc I don’t listen but all the pods/reporters that I’ve heard are and it’s annoying.

Heupel needs to make Pope go spend time in the offseason with some good NFL receivers coaches.

The WR numbers would have been a lot better had those deep passes been on target in 2024.....how many receiving yards and TDs did we leave on the field because of overthrows the past 2 seasons?

I'll put this on the QBs and some problems with pass blocking as well....because a lot of those WRs had steps on the DB.

We also had a lot of dropped passes last year and the prior year. 2 yrs ago Squirrel was near the top of the SEC in dropped passes and last year Brazzell was 3rd in the SEC in dropped passes. Arian Smith was #1 and Ryan Williams #2. Definitely lots of blame and lost prod left on the field last year and the year before.

No, he’s usually positive and protective of whoever the current staff is (going back to Pruitt and Butch). Takes a lot for him to speak negative
