'25 Portal Thread

Well we know Mauigoa, Seaton, Tate to name a few. I mean being out bid happening every single time we lose out on a recruit. But with the way the money is flowing these days, it’s hard not to think that. Especially with seeing things floating around that our NIL isn’t as strong as other big programs.
My apologies, I assumed we were talking about this year's portal cycle.

No it doesn't.

Miami threw a big bag at Mauigoa and he liked the fact the head coach was an OL coach. We were not outbid for Seaton. He just wanted to play for Deion...I don't think we got outbid for Tate during the portal cycle. SF alluded that OSU approached our number and I guess was close enough to it for him to stay.

wasn't OSU alluding to us paying Sanders 8x what they were?

I seem to remember some quotes complaining that we outspent some school on some player by that amount.

Not sure if it was 8x. I know OSU number was big for Sanders but the way ours was structured was better and more lucrative.

It’s not just those we stayed in to the end. We back out or stop recruiting due to size of NIL we either cannot do or are unwilling to offer.

Show me any school that is in EVERY top recruits final list until the end. I will wait.

A WNBA team in Nashville doesn't move a needle fore, or aft to me personally. But, seeing what Randy Boyd, Candace Parker, and Peyton Manning do not just for brand recognition, but to generate interest in athletics for females in our state, and around should not go unnoticed. Some may say this is about money, and while i'm sure that is part of it. It is also about increasing visibility of our program.

They are each of them Tennessee Legends.

You responded about something I never said. I said there are examples where we fell out or dropped out due to being either unwilling or unable to compete with others on NIL. Wingo and Petty are examples on high end guys. I do not care despite an overall pedestrian DB class, but FL is the likely choice on Konnanoby (spelling?) due to our unwillingness to pay what they are.

but having a standard that we MUST pay the most for every guy we are in on, or we have failed is BS.

some guys aren't worth the money they are wanting. just because someone else is dumb enough to pay more doesn't mean anything.

why pay more for Konanbanny if we need the money for Sanders? No one has limitless funds, so its dumb to assume that anyone is paying actual top dollar for everyone they get. you have to prioritize.

money isn't the only thing. Remember how we got Brame even though we were paying HALF as much as Oregon did? Player's preference still comes in on these things. Its very likely they are wanting different amounts from different schools. Personally I would go play for UT for free, but I would want 10 million a year from Bama. its never going to be that hyperbolic, but that situation obviously exists.

Again, I never said we have to pay the most. Although, it does raise the value of elite recruiters and by every account we have some weak links and too few elite guys. We continue to recruit well but less well than the top tier in conference. I’m thankful for Chop.
