Please replace Max Gilbert

I don’t care. When it matters he misses.
That extra 3 pts didn't matter when he missed it last night. If perfection was expected every time no one would ever play golf. You can't expect perfection every time, especially for a kicker. When's the last time you made a 51 yard kick? Give the kid a break.

How about the Georgia game? We would be in the playoffs if it wasn’t for him.
It's not the end of the world. Even if he made it and we were in the playoffs then you'd complain if we got stomped again (like against Ohio State). He's just one player and if the team had performed better then that kick wouldn't have mattered but I don't see you calling out all the other players for missed tackles, etc.

I don’t support replacing Gilbert at this time but have to remind folks that FG % numbers are not the correct metric to use. A kicker’s simple percentage number is based upon how many FG’s are attempted. If the Coach lacks confidence in his kicker, he’ll not send him out in long yard situations in the first place. A kicker who’s ability is rarely seriously challenged will have a higher % success but might not be giving the Coach all possible options.

He also gets plenty of warmup kicks on extra points with how often we score touchdowns. And it’s not even the 50 yarders that are the concern. It’s the automatic 30-45 yarders that are concerning. He missed one against Georgia that would have won the game and missed one against Mississippi State. Both of those games went to OT. He makes those kicks and we don’t even go into OT and win in regulation. Then he misses the chip shot against Oklahoma. That’s the difference between being a playoff team and being right on the outside looking in.

He kicked on a 3rd down after one of coaches conservative play calls that didn't even line it up for him.

Some really harsh takes on the young man and not throwing some accountability to the guy that put him in that position.

And the false start, forgot about that one.
Yep. Lots of fiddling around by the coaching staff before that GA kick. I commented to a friend at the time that we were icing our own kicker.

Hate to call out players by name but we gotta move on from Gilbert next season. Please!
That's a pretty short sighted trashy comment. Maybe bama or lsu would be a better fit for your style of fandom.
The kid's a sophomore and he hits 80% of his FG attempts. Let's let him develop. He could be the best kicker we ever had.

I was upset with the miss against UGA but then as I watch the NFL, there have been more easy kicks (FGs) missed this season than I can remember. I think it was the Raiders kicker who hooked one a good 10 yds off target.

He has the highest FG% in Tennessee history.
No one really cares about that if you miss every field goal that actually matters. Can't have a kicker thats afraid to go win a game.

It's easy to tell all of the people who have never done anything competitive in their life/never had the opportunity to go win a game because they didnt recognize that look in his eyes prior to the Georgia kick when he realized it was him that was getting the chance to win it.

What does that have to do with last night? He posted this after Gilbert missed a 50 yard up 31-0.

Gilbert has missed exactly one game-winning field goal.

So you pick out one missed FG as why we aren’t in the playoffs?? I agree if he makes it we are in but you can’t ignore the mismanagement of the clock, the INT’s, the missed blocks, the fumbles, the blown coverages and the missed tackles as reasons we aren’t in the playoffs.

There are an average of 180 plays ran in every college game and very rarely does a team lose because of one play.

Or maybe if we had stopped them on 4th and long on the series before the missed field goal, there would not have even been an attempt.
I get your point but please be honest with me here: if he makes that fg then what?

We win the game bro!!!

I’m not beatin up on the kid I’m just bein honest- we need a new kicker.

Or stopped them in OT after his kick gave us the lead? How is it even possible to have a lead in a game that a missed kick has already “lost”. Hmmmm……

Teams all over the the country have guys who can drill 50 yarders and he sucks outside of 40. And he’s the opposite of clutch.

All of his makes that puff his stats were 30 yarders last year when we stalled out in the red zone over and over again. He doesn’t mentally have it.
