Please replace Max Gilbert

Gilbert. Sophomore. Has range to hit from over 50 and is 13/17 this year. Just the numbers say he is a keeper. The Georgia game was Heupels big screwup game. He totally blew play calling the last 2 minutes and tried to have Gilbert pull them out of the fire. All kickers miss. Timing is the key.

76.7% isn't good

*and you are wrong. The most accurate kicker in Tennessee Volunteers history is Alex Walls, with a career field goal completion rate of 77.9%.
So "76.7% isn't good," but the highest in UT history is 77.9%? A 1.2% difference. (I believe he was #1 going into last night, but the 50 yard miss knocked him down a little).

Um...okay.

Some of y'all will say any old dumb thing to push an agenda.

Yes, 76% is very good. To say otherwise is obtuse.

Max is 13 out of 17 this season. His average of 76% was exactly the same last season. The average length of attempts plays a lot on the percentage. Basically he is the same guy he has always been. The question would be what is an acceptable percentage? I don't have the answer but 3 out of 4 does not sound bad.

How many FG kickers have hit 100% this year in college football? I know you want to win as we all do. It sounds like you want perfection and it is just not going to happen. It sometimes can be a lot of things the snap, timing, the hold, the threads the wind, the rain etc... Its hard to be perfect the whole year with 3 ppl involved in a craft with 11 ppl & crowd trying their best to make you miss.

Max needs to hang out with Jackson Ross all offseason. Max is clearly a good kicker, but his nerves get the best of him. Give him an off-season of hanging out with a free-wheeling Aussie; grow out a bad mustache and an Aussie mullet, go swimming in some budgie-huggers while drinking some beers --- just let him go FULL AUSSIE and see if that helps his nerves! 😄

I think it's the gamblers. Most know little about football. They think anything inside 50 yards is automatic and if they are disappointed, then I'm fine with that.

In the Oklahoma game specifically, he missed a FG earlier in the game and we turned the ball over on downs later in the game around the 37 yard line or so. If you have a good kicker in those situations then we would have only been down 26-23 with 8 minutes left. It completely changes you offense being down 26-17 vs 26-23.
If Vols had converted on 3rd down instead of having to kick. If the line had blocked the OU tackler. If Joey had completed another pass. If the play call had been different. If our receiver had read the coverage and found the open spot. If our back had picked up the blitz. If…………..

Yes I agree he doesn't have it in clutch moments, anybody can hit the FG when there's no pressure.

Uga game he choked
Alabama he choked
Oklahoma game he choked got took to school by a kicker wearing his sister shorts.

Explain the Georgia game FG he missed. And last year when he missed like 4 fgs against Kentucky. Defend that.
Explain the value add to him and this TEAM about publicly putting this attack out there. Bet Coach is capable of analyzing this situation without the childish attacks on a player who is fully aware of his shortcomings, ESPECIALLY during the season when any alternatives are not available.

Low class ignorant move.

He’s 13/21 beyond 40 yards. Those aren’t opinions, they are facts. That sucks. Again, the majority of his makes are 30 yarders that came last year when we sucked in the red zone. He made 13 of 14 of them, which inflate his stats. He’s objectively a bad kicker beyond chip shot range.

We win the game that ALL of the LOM said we would lose by 2 TD's. Instead of being happy, they dump on the kicker. I do wish you folks would leave and never come back. You're miserable when we lose and you're miserable when we win. Bunch O Losers is what you should be called.

Jeff Hall is the greatest Vols kicker I've ever seen!
We need another kicker like him again.
Jeff Hall had ice water in his veins. So did Fuad Reveiz, John Becksvoort, and James Wilhoit. I think Max is a fine kicker, but he doesn't perform well under pressure.

There is for sure plenty of blame to go around for the losses but kickers literally only have one job to focus on and if you can’t perfect your 1 task then you are hurting the team more than the guys that are out there busting their ass all game long. Really sucks to have an “idiot kicker”, as Peyton says, come in and ruin the vibe.

I was upset with the miss against UGA but then as I watch the NFL, there have been more easy kicks (FGs) missed this season than I can remember. I think it was the Raiders kicker who hooked one a good 10 yds off target.
Across all 32 NFL teams the entire league has a FG % of 84.5% this season. And some of these teams attempt crazy long field goals at the end of halves that problem skew that. So realistic field goal attempts they are probably at least 86-87%.

Anybody remember who Max beat out for the job? As I remember it was close. Wonder if he’s still available. I’d definitely open up the job for tryouts tomorrow morning at 8am.

It's decent, but I don't consider that good.

I don't care what the highest is/was, just that Gilbert is not.

I'm not pushing any agenda lol.

At least he's made every XP in his career.
