Just wanted to get everyone's opinion on the Pistol Formation. Advantages/ Disadvantages? Will this bring something new to the table that Vandy won't really be able to prepare for? I'll Hang up and Listen. Go Vols

I personally like the formation, but still, blockers have to block, and runners have to run for this, or any formation to be successful. If Poole, or whoever dances around too long, or are immediatly met by a big d-lineman, it really doesnt matter what formation they are in.

I like the formation.. but I question as to how well it will work with our personnel right now..

It's really just shotgun. Won't make much difference we can't run it anyway. Might give Tyler a little more time to find a receiver if he plays.

Is Dooley's version of the piston with the QB just one yard closer not 3? I think I Nevada steps up about 3 yards from the normal 7 in shotgun..

saturday night posts of it works:
man we have some of the greatest coaches. when they came up with that pistol Candy had no idea how to handle it.

saturday night if it fails:
our coaches are complete idiots. why did they try that stupid pistol offense we cant run out of a regular offense with a fullback much less one where the qb is "x" number of yards behind the center. FIRE EVERBODY!

personally im for any change they think might work. so why not?

He said 4 yards that's all that's different. He can't go under center so they had to do it, at least he's saying he can't go under center. Who knows if that's really going to be the case or not.

Well I don't think they are so much for the change because they think it will help us win... That is basically the only formation that Bray can play in right now that's not just Shotgun 24/7... I think they are trying to do everything they can to get him back in the game because he gives us the best chance at winning..

If our RBs run downhill, it could be very effective. Unfortunately, Jaron Toney is the only RB that has shown a willingness to consistently do this.

Something, anything. I'm not a Dooley basher like a lot of folks around here seem to be, however, the one criticism I do have is the running game. I know we don't have the greatest backs and our line is young, etc. but we were more successful last year with a younger team.

I think the problem is systemic and we desperately need a new scheme in place next year, but for now wrinkles like a pistol or something would be nice.

Lane running the wildcat looked pretty sweet last week, we need more stuff like that.

Do you watch NFL games? Nearly everyone runs the shot gun spread today.

Yeah they may run a similar offense but they can also take snaps under center... Basically we will be in this formation all night.. No under center at all.. Which scares me because if we have to bring simms in for a qb sneak on 4-1" we will lose...

You run whatever it takes to win and to best accommodate the personal you have on the field. The job as a coach is to put players in the right position to succeed.

Simms shouldnt be on the roster, have lane under center
