Phillips is a liability on the mound

What is it now, 36 stolen bases? That's like 36 extra base hits. That deflates your defense, which carries over to hitting. He's got good stuff, but has to develop a slide step.

Coaching staff doesn’t favor the stretch, that’s been discussed on this board over and over

Thing is the stolen bases have never been this much of an issue for any other starter we've had under Tony V, so that tells me the issue is less our pitching philosophy and more a certain pitcher when he pitches on a certain day.

Notice steals aren't as prevalent when Doyle and the Sunday starter (be it Kuhns/Russell/etc.) pitch

Doyle is left handed. Totally different situation. I don’t know what Dollander numbers were but they weren’t good either. Vandy will run all over Kuhns tomorrow too.

From what the podcasts say incl Will Heflin who played for VOLS, Coach Anderson won't allow it and doesn't care about stolen bases. Trouble is this year's team doesn't have the offense to overcome it. Also seems like opponents have figured this out similar to maybe figuring out Heupel's offense. I don't know.

Anderson don’t have a rotation of Dollander, Burns, & Beam & a host of great relievers. Great coaches adapt to their talent. He obviously doesn’t have that this year. Having that same philosophy this year is coaching malpractice. JMO.

But hey, he & TV get paid great $ to sit over there & let teams embarrass them taking bases like it’s little league. But don’t bitch when there’s no life in the stadium. A walk is a triple? Who thinks that’s winning baseball? Only idiots who know nothing about the game. No other team at only level, HS, college, or MLB uses this philosophy.

The “idiots who know nothing about the game” won a national championship last year FYI

You seem to have taken something personal. 😈
Only those “Johnny come lately” who thinks this philosophy is sound baseball strategy. It might be if you have 3 MLB guys as your starters & several effective relievers with a team that pounds the baseball. That ain’t this team. Again, please list other teams that allow this?

Things Tony said in the radio postgame interview:

We could have made a difference on defense and kept it much closer.
We didn't pinch hit as well as we needed to.
Ensley plays the game the right way, and younger players need to take note of that.
We had two spots in the lineup that we didn't get anything out of.
McElvain looked like a major leaguer out there tonight.
AJ threw the ball as well as he has since coming back.
Probably will start Teagan tomorrow.
AJ's work allowed us to have a few fresher arms for tomorrow.

Probably, but considering what vitello had to replace, it's impressive that we are where we are record wise. Honestly, I think getting out of LNS and not facing SEC opponents will bring this team some relief. Just getting to the supers would be a great end to the season.

FWIW, Tony was asked about the stolen base thing tonight and basically said if Marcus can't get it figured out then he's not going to pitch anymore. Frankly, I wish he would've said that 3-4 weeks ago, but I guess better late than never.
Not saying vitello is bluffing, but who does he turn to? AJ then by committee to finish? What about Sunday? Not sure we have answers, but I guess you could argue that it couldn't be much worse?

I don't have the answers, but something has to change because we've worn out the definition of insanity by letting Marcus do what he's done for the past month+

I did hear the interview and heard TV say it was an individual thing for MP to fix but I missed the comment he wouldn’t pitch any more.

Edit: I did see the post game interview where TV clearly stated MP would have to correct or he’s not going to pitch.
