Phillips is a liability on the mound

I'm no coach and not claiming to be, but I'd give the baseball to Loy.
And that takes an arm from the pen which has had struggles as well. Robbing Peter to pay Paul, no? I'm of the mind that we have the talent, but it needs more seasoning. This year is what it is and let's be real. It's not like we fell off a cliff this year. If a "down season" is a borderline top 15 team, I'll never complain about that. I want to really appreciate those special teams we've had while remembering that it can and has been a whole lot worse for us.

I can agree with everything said here, but I don’t think it would hurt to try something different at this point either. If something isn’t working, you don’t keep repeating the same thing over and over with these results.

I fully trust Frank and Tony to navigate this team to be it’s best. I guess it helps to stop and realize we are playing in a league that’s prob the best top to bottom we’ve seen. Last night LSU made Arkansas look like a Jr college team and run ruled them to win series and go for sweep today. That’s the same team that SWEPT #1 Texas last week. CLEARLY…we are spoiled from the massive success the last few years!

Question: What adjustments do you guys think you can make... with 8 stolen bases today... what are you guys gonna work on in the throws down or faster...

Tony: Nothing. Peebles, Peebles threw two guys out. We've got a different starting pitcher tomorrow. So the other guy needs to get better at it or he's not going to pitch.

Think we’ll make it to Hoover?

On the other hand...
Didn't you ever wonder why Wiley E. Coyote didn't just stick with an idea for awhile, work out the kinks, and refine it, instead of immediately going back to the ACME catalog?

(Obviously, he had Prime, but still...)

I know it’s been discussed over and over but they are going to have to adjust for the steals. Letting teams get into scoring position and removing double plays almost every inning is not a recipe for success. I don’t think this team is going very far if every game is a scoring contest. The hitting is too inconsistent. Yea TN has good pitching but so do other teams.

What is it now, 36 stolen bases? That's like 36 extra base hits. That deflates your defense, which carries over to hitting. He's got good stuff, but has to develop a slide step.
I understand he has no "move" or ability to hold a runner,,,,BUT when the opportunity is there to get a runner, our catcher lacks the ability to throw anyone out.

Agree...Phillips struggles alot. Maybe better as a closer. Pitching and hitting not nearly as impressive this year.

Loved that cartoon. I always use Acme as a fictional case study. Great childhood memories with the Road Runner!

You don't have to have a move or ability to hold a runner to cut down the number of successful steal attempts. You just have to have a faster delivery to the plate--a slide step vs. leg kick. It takes some work to develop but it's clear several of our pitchers need to improve in that area, particularly Phillips. The numbers don't lie.

If Phillips isn't seeing the mound, who do we think would get his 4-5 innings a weekend?

And before you say, "anybody would be better!", ask yourself if you are sure about that. Finally, if you are sure about it, ask yourself if you think you know more than Coach V and Coach A, because they have been giving him the innings, and they know what they have in their pen.

Probably, but considering what vitello had to replace, it's impressive that we are where we are record wise. Honestly, I think getting out of LNS and not facing SEC opponents will bring this team some relief. Just getting to the supers would be a great end to the season.
We have taken a step back in all aspects of the game. If everyone stays, we are good for the next couple years. We have a couple that will leave early if the money don't add up. Who wouldn't, right? We have a lot of new ballers that have major upside, and a few coming in that have experience to fill in some gaps. Last year was not going to be duplicated. Agreed, making it to the supers would be quite the accomplishment. I look forward to every game and would love to lace em up one more time, but vicarious living is all I have left on the diamond. Go VOLS and enjoy the ride!

I’ve seen several people mention making Russell the Saturday starter. I’m not quite sure he’s ready for that though. Besides him, I truly don’t know who you go with. Our bullpen has not shown itself to be great this year. We really just have Doyle and then a lot of inconsistency behind him.

Kinda late for a cage rattle, but better late than never.

Anderson don’t have a rotation of Dollander, Burns, & Beam & a host of great relievers. Great coaches adapt to their talent. He obviously doesn’t have that this year. Having that same philosophy this year is coaching malpractice. JMO.

But hey, he & TV get paid great $ to sit over there & let teams embarrass them taking bases like it’s little league. But don’t bitch when there’s no life in the stadium. A walk is a triple? Who thinks that’s winning baseball? Only idiots who know nothing about the game. No other team at only level, HS, college, or MLB uses this philosophy.

You should change your name to Dr Secondguess. You’re probably one of the guys that blamed it on Peebles too. Good to see they finally adjusted. Holding runners is as much about pitching as striking out batters.

Were you not second guessing in your original post? Guess i just figured that a first year starter would improve as the season progressed.
