Chuck, help me out here. I’m on a much needed vacation with my girl after spending the last 2 months as an invalid that Acuña Jr. understands. So, I didn’t get to watch the game today or even check on it besides once in the third and the final score. What happened? All I’ve gathered is that Marcus did well and held runners decently?
No I was commenting on the inability of pitching staff to hold runners, something than was also evident 2 years ago, when the starting rotation was made up of 3 first round draft picks. The issue hasn’t just been with only 1 starter (2nd year in the program) either. This problem was exposed again to most of us as recent as last Saturday. Maybe Cincy isn’t as fast as SEC teams? Were you not second guessing in your original post? Guess i just figured that a first year starter would improve as the season progressed.
Sheesh, just enjoy the win. No need to double down on an unsubstantiated opinion. No I was commenting on the inability of pitching staff to hold runners, something than was also evident 2 years ago, when the starting rotation was made up of 3 first round draft picks. If you recall, the head coach was critical of MP after that game. Did you email CTV his comments? I’m happy Phillips &CFA adjusted which was all any of us who were critical 3 weeks ago were asking for.

Lol. Guy who second guessed best coaching staff in college baseball calls out someone else for second guessing... FWIW, I think it’s totally fair to second guess coaching decisions. You should change your name to Dr Secondguess. You’re probably one of the guys that blamed it on Peebles too. Good to see they finally adjusted. Holding runners is as much about pitching as striking out batters.

This is all spot-on. Tony routinely talks about his own decisions being wrong frequently. As you said, the issue is with those who bring notice to everything that goes wrong without giving props to the overall health of the program.Yep. These guys get payed plenty of money to be second guessed. Even the best coaches are wrong sometimes. And sometimes, the ones second guessing are right. Like second guessing Wright State’s coach after he pulled his starter after 6 with a no-hitter going and a low pitch count, only to see his bullpen blow it against Vanderbilt.
But where it crosses a line are the folks who are constantly negative and critical of a staff that has given us more success than any program in America this decade. To be fair, those folks are fewer and further between than they are on the other sports’ boards (namely football).
Speaking of that…I’ve voiced frustration with some of Elander’s decisions as 3B coach this season. This is all spot-on. Tony routinely talks about his own decisions being wrong frequently. Yes, was just discussing that play with some people at the game. It might have been that Elander didn’t initially catch the pitcher not throwing. If not, he recovered and got him back quickly. E definitely saved the day in that situation. I also have to give credit to Cincinnati for drawing that up. It was a no-risk situation for them, and they certainly are trying to throw everything at us.Speaking of that…I’ve voiced frustration with some of Elander’s decisions as 3B coach this season.
So I gotta give him credit for saving Kilen on the hidden ball trick yesterday. That would have gotten many people. Nice heads up there, Coach E.
