Peyton for QB coach

Manning seemingly has made a PR blunder. He had a chance to retire in the last month but didn't do so, and now faces the unnecessary embarrassment of being cut by the Broncos, which is going to happen on Monday unless a press conference or statement is arranged between now and then. Getting cut doesn't really mean anything--as most people still expect him to retire and it is well know that he's done with the Broncos.

Still, it's something he might have avoided--unless he really does want to play another year. I haven't heard of any interest in him from any team. It's possible that the LA Rams or the Browns might want to sign him to a modest contract and let him compete for the starting job--but they'd be stupid to give him big money and assure him the starting job, given his age and his struggles last year. One wonders what a diminished PM would gain from playing one more year for a team that has been bad--it doesn't make a lot of sense, frankly. It's possible that the resurfacing of the training-room incident 20 years ago may have delayed his retirement announcement. You don't want the retirement announcement for an illustrious career tainted by questions of whether or not you put your cajones in a female trainer's face, that's for sure. PM may not care about getting released, may see if there is any interest from teams, and if not, call it quits. That's how it is looking now.

The guy said QB coach on the Dan Patrick show, kind of as a joke.......and the idiots run with it.

Latest reports/rumors say that the Houston Texans are showing interest. That doesn't mean he will not retire anyhow though. Rumors are that Coach O'Brien isn't happy with what he has at QB in Brian Hoyer so maybe Peyton is a possibility signing there for 1 more year of football. Texans were a playoff team in 2015 so he wouldn't necessarily be going on a bad/non-playoff contending team.

It makes perfect sense for him to retire right now but he has a history of taking his time with this type of decision. You might remember he waited all the way to March to announce that he was returning for his senior season in '97.

If he's gonna come back for one more season, that's the best fit. Still a big if IMO.

Tedi Bruschi from ESPN says he's coming back to play for the Texans. That's his prediction anyhow. Not insider information from him but what he predicts.

So four schools of thought emerging as I hear it on the radio out of Indy this morning:

1) Houston Texans - this is a less likely scenario as the Texans GM and coach have both said they do NOT want a veteran QB

2) LA Rams - This is actually gaining a TON of traction. Think about it for a sec...here is a team that doesn't need a QB as much as they need a 'game manager'...also Peytan SELLS tickets and what better setting than the return of NFL to LA, in prime time, and Peyton as the QB...tickets would be through the roof.

3) Indianapolis Colts - Jim Irsay has said many, many times he would like to see PM retire as a Colt...we could see a one year 'retirement' package from them

4) Cleveland Browns - but NOT as a player...this would be a likely spot to land of PM wants to get into the management side of the game

Personally, I would like to see him take a year or so to rest and get into a coaching capacity somewhere.

I thought that ever sense PM comment about only being interested in the QB coaching position, that there was a standing offer and Butch had already put the ball in Peyton's hand. The rest is just details but the job is their for him at his leisure.

Jump higher Vols.

Go Vols!

If Peyton loves his alma mater as much as I think he does, he needs to strike while the iron is hot and become a coach for UT at some facility.

No one has a better understanding of offensive strategy, and I'm sure he also knows a great deal about defensive strategy despite being an offensive player.

Everyone knows Peyton right now. Our recruiting to play under one of the game's best will be much greater now than in the future. We need Peyton as an offensive coach and we'll be talking dynasty in no time.
Don't you think he's given enough to this University? The thought that "if Peyton loved this school he'd coach" is ridiculous. Let the man rest.....he's done enough

I agree. Give the guy a well-deserved rest. Why would he want to jump into another pressure cooker for relatively low pay?

Until of course the first time UT doesnt land the best QB in the country and our QB has a bad game. I personally believe TN fans would turn on Peyton faster than a Democrat lying to the American people.

Ask Johnny Majors or Phil Fulmer. That's why I hope he never coaches at Tennessee.

Right. Peyton Manning's legacy is golden right now. I wouldn't screw with that when he can come into town a week or two a year and work with the qb's anyway if he wants. Other than selfish reasons, why would Peyton want to be a coach in any capacity? He'll make more doing endorsements and some part time tv gig with half the time commitment.

Gruden won't come but somehow, Peyton Manning will? Why?

That and we really don't need that troublemaker around here. Imagine the image that would portray to the rest of the country......they might talk bad about us or something. Best to just not mention him and hope that whole mooning incident stays hidden nice and safe under the rug we swept in under.

Uh...You should have run this comment by Freak. Clear you need a role model.
