Peyton for QB coach

Just another smokescreen.
Manning will replace Gruden on MNF after Jon accepts the UT QB coach position.

Soon

OP...

If Peyton doesn't head to the booth, he and some partners (Papa John's guy, Manning family, whomever..) will probably buy/start an NFL team.

Being a QB coach surrounded by fickle, short-term minded, fair-weather-fans (in many cases - not most) would be his #8 option IMHO.

Love your enthusiasm however.

I don't see Peyton as an analyst or a color commentator. I don't think Peyton is concerned about money. Some may say he'd take a job as one if they paid him handsomely, but as much as he's given to The University of Tennessee, it would make sense for him to donate his time as either a QB coach, or more likely, an unpaid "resource" who comes to a couple practices a week to work on things with the QBs/offense and the coaches, but then doesn't travel with the team or stand on the sidelines on game days. I think that (for now) may be where Peyton would be the most useful, as he is probably interested in turning his focus on something less time/life consuming that's more of a "day job" than a "pay job". GBO!

maybe there is a time on board clause. He's been on for 7 years and still hasn't hit 100. They probably thought....what the heck, how bad can it be.

Of course what do i know. I have 6400+ posts and they still won't let me start a thread. Might have something to do with me running my ideas by freak, to see what he thought though. He did seem a little worried for everyone on heres safety when i told him about the threads i wanted to start. :hmm:

Peyton will continue to support the university and football team, but I don't see him ever being a full time coach, going on the road and recruiting or any of that. Why would you? He's going to watch his kids grow up and be involved with them. He's going to run his qb camp in Louisiana and impact players like that. He might do a little tv work. He might want to be in an NFL front office, but I see him doing what Joe Montana and Dan Marino did.

I'll take that chance any day! No VFL would ever boo Peyton Manning! Not to mention, could you imagine the impact he would have on recruiting the top QBs in every cycle!?!

Yea we would never criticize, let alone fire, a former player, who returned to coach, who was a great ambassador for the University.....oh never mind

I would gladly take Peyton as our QB coach.

However, that's like asking a chess master to only be in control of one piece. Peyton is a genius who picks apart defenses on the field, on the fly, week after week. He could easily be a position coach in the league, or a coordinator in the league.

If Peyton came back to the college game, they would just give him the OC position.

I'm not afraid of him being here, like ya'll are.

"Afraid" of him here? Nobody's "afraid" of it, just that nobody thinks he will or should come here as QB coach. I personally think he's much bigger and much more important to the university than to become an employee of it as an assistant coach.

Right. Name all of the HoF players from the NFL that went into coaching after they retired. It's a short list if it exists at all. Coaching is a day to day grind. More time away from your family is not what a guy that recently retired wants to sign up for.

Pretty selfish on our part to want Peyton to give up a well deserved retirement.

Why in the world would he want to do that? As it stands he can go down on the field whenever he wants, leave whenever he wants, and no one is going tell him what to do. If he wants to hang around practices no one is going to run him off. And maybe Peyton Manning comes around our practices is an ok recruiting tool. Guy has no reason to tie himself down to such a job. Plus what if the team sucks? He's a legend as it stands, what more could he add? A few losing seasons and the shine would wear off pretty quick.

There are a few Duke grads at my church that, "have on good authority, that Peyton will be the next OC at Duke." It just makes me shake my head. I don't think he is going to take a college coaching gig anyways, but if he did, he wouldn't choose Duke over UT.

He wouldn't get the OC job at UT right away

He's always had a great relationship with Cutcliffe.

It's beyond a retarded notion that he would even consider being a QB coach...........just stupid

Not stupid according to the man himself. . .

Manning:

"Quarterbacks coach, I would do at Tennessee. Head coach? Absolutely not," Manning said." "People in Tennessee like me right now, Dan — I don't know why. But you become the head coach and cut that in half right away. ‘Why are you throwing it on 4th and 1? Why did you punt there; you should go for it.' Cut it in half -- it's like being in politics...

"Quarterbacks coach, you probably could stay under the radar. You get your quarterbacks throwing a lot of completions, you probably could stay in good favor. Maybe if they call, that'd be something."

Very diplomatic, and nothing more IMHO.

How did this happen? Less than 100 posts and you were not only allowed to start a thread, but a stupid one at that?

I demand an investigation!! I think there is some kind of culture being developed here....with privileges.....and what not.

Someone is paying off Freak...

He'll be some type of coach around Knoxville some day in the future. Just not right now & anytime soon either with all of this crap going on in Knoxville. I bet by the time he's 50 or before Peyton will be on staff here.
