Peterman

There are literally thousands of QBs with good work ethic and strong arms that aren't playing in the NFL. Peterman has never even started and won a game in college and you are comparing him to an all time great QB? Are you trolling?

I don't troll

What have you seen that makes you believe this?
I don't agree with his assessment, but we did brush off:

1) Cam Newton (for Matt Simms...go figure)
2) Tajh Boyd
3) Bryce Petty
4) Garrett Grayson

All four are either in the league in some capacity as a QB, or will be via this coming draft.

I hope Peterman can land on a good team that will give him a decent chance at starting, and that he does well.

Simms is an anomaly. Nathan is certainly much more physically gifted, but Matt was a much better college qb than Nathan is at this point...and it's not close.

Ya because Nathan has played soooo much ball and we know evvvvvery thing about him.

He's appeared in 11 of a possible 17 games (due to injury) the last 2 years and anyone watching with any discernment knows what he's seen.

More importantly, the coaches have pretty much weighed in at this point IMHO. When it was "his time" after Worley's injury, Butch jumped right past him to the supposed "third stringer" in an effort to get bowl eligible....a qb they planned to redshirt who supposedly "couldn't hit the broad side of a barn" in practice.

Finally, Butch has chosen to bring in 3 new qbs this class which is virtually unheard of, one of which (Dormady) who now appears to wear his number 12.

But hey, don't let any evidence or relevant information get in your way.

Matt Simms

Simms has never started a game in the NFL. He started and won games for us. He threw for almost 2000 yards and 8 TDs in 18 games.

Peterman has never thrown a TD pass as a vol and has amassed 94 passing yards in 11 games.

As bad as you think Simms was - he was light years ahead of Peterman.

Now that you mention it, everyone on VolNation has a better TD/INT ratio than Peterman...that's pretty sad.

Nationdom is trying to "agitate" as Muhammad Ali used say. As far as Peterman goes, if he wants to stay that's fine. He may like it here, and I think it would be good for the young guys to have him around.

If you are implying that Dobbs got to play against lesser teams starting out to build his confidence, I disagree.

Peterman's first game action was in 2013 against Austin Peay, as a RS freshman.

Dobbs' first game action, in 2013 as a true freshman, was at #1 Alabama. The next week, he starts at #10 Missouri (SEC-E champ), and the following week, he gets his first home start against SEC-W champ and national Runner-Up Auburn. Following that, it was a Vanderbilt team that went on to win 9 games.

I believe NP to be a quality person, but I also believe he got a fair look (especially in spring ball) to win the job. Unfortunately for him, the coaches went with a different player each season.
....and I compared his early game action to Dobbs' where???

Very well said. A lot of posters have stated that Peterman was "thrown into the fire" because his first start was at Florida....in his 2nd year as a college qb and after having appeared in the first 3 games of the season. As you've documented, Dobbs actually had it much worse as a true freshman and he performed much better. Facts just are what they are.
Who said that Dobbs didn't do better from the start?

Peterman was always a high character, quality young man who represented the program well. If he does transfer, I wish him the best and hope he finds a team that will allow him to close out his career on a positive note. The fact that he has graduated and is enrolled in grad school speaks for his determination and values. He has always been a VFL.

As a QB, I always felt that his one shortcoming was that he was slow in making reads and decisions. That always left him vulnerable to the pass rush. He had all the tools, arm strength, height, speed/ quickness, and leadership. But in the SEC, QBs must find targets and release the ball quickly.

How much actual experience did he have when he had to make quick decisions? Worley was the same for awhile. Being thrown in the fire is the only way to learn. He had 5 series against Georgia and Alabama. I didn't think that he looked bad against Alabama.

The first series , we made 2 first downs, before we stalled just past midfield, and the second series we gained 9 yards, and punted on 4th and 1. Then he was pulled. I don't remember him looking bad or scared in that game.

Wasn't directed at you 72. Over the past few months, several posters have defended Peterman by saying he was "thrown into the fire" his first start vs Florida (which I agree he kinda was), as though it was something unique to him only, not fair to a college QB and was something where any expectation of success was unrealistic.

Just pointing out that Dobbs, as a true freshman who not only didn't expect to play when he did but indeed had never even taken a collegiate snap until the second half of the Bama game in 2013, arguably had a much more difficult "christening" to start his career with @Bama, @Missouri, and Auburn.....and he fared a good deal better.

Maybe Nationdom should change tactics, maybe try the rope a dope.

Dunno brother, our current commander in chief was a "Street Agitator" for years in Chicago....BHO rode that gig all the way to the White House. Maybe Nationdom is crazy like a fox.

Buying time with your legs cannot be overestimated, especially this year. Look at the 3 points that Worley was able to put on the board against Ole Miss. Of course, Peterman was in for 3 plays in the 4th quarter, so he should take credit for a large part of our inability to only score 3 points.

Not speaking for anyone else, but the misgivings with Peterman stemmed from his composure in ANY situation. If he had exhibited an inkling of competence in the limited number of opportunities, I could have rolled with an extended audition...he was so shaky that I got nervous with him in the victory formation at the end of games. And I acknowledge that he's 100x the athlete I am...not anything to brag about. :)
