Perine Quote

I’m back and excited for another season. Anyone have thoughts on this quote?

I’ve been to a few recent of the Florida games, their players and fans were all over joyed to get the wins. As for the loss sure they took it in stride like any other loss.

After decades of irrelevance the gators are actually gracious losers. Winning is still new to them so they really don’t know how to handle the success. Like most teams and fans they enjoy their wins. Sometimes a little over the top like most other teams and fans.

After Mac squeezed out a win and said something like, you just don’t lose to Tn, the next year he blew a solid lead late in the 3rd qtr and ended up getting blasted. Then he had the nerve to complain about death threats. What did he expect from the Fl fans? A calm rational expression of their concern?

I mean...he’s right? My only defense would be look at the overall record. Spoiler alert it still doesn’t bode well for us (20-28 all time against them, but closer than what he’s thinking)

You sure about that?

UF won both games we played in the 80s, went 2-2 in the four games we played in the 70s, and won the only game we played against each other in the 60s.

But you guys totally owned us from 1916-1955.

I hate it how facts can sometimes get in the way of a good post by others.

6 national titles, 13 conference titles for UT, literally half of each of those for Flori-duh. I seriously don't know where the thought of them as a ncaa blueblood comes from. They have only been upper echelon since the 90's. Granted they have owned us lately, historically they're beneath us in just about every category that matters other than Heisman trophy winners.

Tennessee didn't consider it a rivalry either... before Spurrier showed up. The silly Gators were another doormat sec team, PERIOD! It's cyclical. Hopefully, we get back to the way it should be. Florida sucking!
Florida won 6 of the previous 9 games vs Tennessee before Spurrier got there in 1990.

Also, there’s nothing cyclical about 7-26 the last 33 times we’ve played Florida dating back to 1976.

If Dobbs hadn't played out of his mind in the 2nd half of the 2016 game, we wouldn't have a UF win since before YouTube and iPhones existed.

I have never thought of the game as a "rivalry" and said many times why.

At one time, the two teams were very good and the game had lots of significance. So, it was built up to be a rivalry. The same way the Patriots-Colts had significance and was made to be a rivalry.

But, Indianapolis-New England is not a rivalry and neither is Florida-Tennessee

JMO

I like your stuff normally 99 but I disagree here.

Whether or not it stems from an era that two teams were dominant, rivalries have to start somewhere. But rivalries are subject to the fan. People don't think Alabama is much of a rival but I grew up close to the border so there was a lot of hatred. I never saw Kentucky as a rival but I'm sure fans along the border hate Kentucky. I never saw Kentucky as rival because we always won and I'm sure that's the case now with FL and Bama fans viewing us.

I have always wondered why they don’t have a statue of Charle Pell out side their stadium. Without all his cheating we couldn’t even have this conversation.

Truth. Florida was never a powerhouse before Spurrier but it’s been 30 years. Those who remember the pre-spurrier days have to be at least 45-50 now. The kids playing today have no idea that TN was once a powerhouse and the gators were mediocre.

Ugh. What happened. I remember even during the spurrier years we were still up 8-10 games or so. Unbelievable how these last 15 years have destroyed our legacy.

Mediocre for sure. Went 7-5 with Emmitt Smith in 89.

6 National titles?? The NCAA officially gives Tennessee credit for 2 national titles.
