Per Brice

Gundy said today that he was never really considering the Tennessee job and that it got blown severely out of context. He said he has known some of the Tennessee folks for a long time and that he was already in Dallas when he talked with our reps. He also said that since he does not have an agent, any time he talks with reps from another school people assume it is about their job. I am sure he downplayed it a lot to look good for his fanbase, but definitely an interesting take on that situation.

I was wondering if Petersen would be using us to get a raise from Washington, but that still does not fix the issues that Petersen has vocally stressed to the media. I think the guy is a winner and he may honestly make the jump to compete in the SEC to show the country that he can win at the highest level. Petersen strikes me as a guy that likes a challenge. I also think it is interesting that he still would be interviewing now, even after all of the backlash against Tennessee in the national media. Plus the rumors that his reps reached out to Tennessee even before Butch was fired, and then the reports that Currie was in Seattle at one point during the search. This would be an amazing hire.

it atleast sounds like he's willing to sit down and listen, otherwise why even put that out there if he turns it down before talking?

I'm not sure it's our University. Coach Fulmer is so we'll respected some coaches may listen as a courtesy.

Speaks Volumes that these Coaches are willing to be interviewed. Considering the circus that preceded. Even if it is used for raises you have no chance with someone who won't talk to you. Phil gets mad respect from these guys.

So you're test driving a Ferrari and an Oldsmobile. Seems like you interview Peterson, offer him anything he wants to make it happen and don't talk to anyone else, period.

I nominate this for best post in the history of all message boards.

The latest list according to Football Scoop and SEC County consists of Morris, Venables, Tucker, Miles, and Steele. That is sad and underwhelming. Honestly if those are our choices than I am going with a Miles/Tee combo.

Here's my take. When he was coaching at UT, Phil was one of the most tenacious recruiters in the country. He could sell ice to Eskimos, so who's to say he's still not one heckuva' salesman regarding getting us the best HC out there. Unlike stone-face Currie, Phil's got a great reputation as a winner and an overall great guy, the SEC's shoving reality back into the faces of the sports world...ESPN, CBS Sports, et al; the reality that the SEC is head and shoulders above all those other P5 conferences. Talking about his program getting the attention it deserves! Although WU's stadium is nice and their game days are considered about the best out west, Peterson's gotta' know that the SEC in general, and UT specifically in this instance, put out the biggest football extravaganzas anywhere. What else? UT's got lots more money than WU, and you've got three guesses as to which of these advantages speaks loudest. Go Phil. Grabbawinner!
