Per Austin Price - expect Shrout to get the nod tomorrow

I'm not for booing the kid, but as far as we know last Saturday he completely ignored his coaches and screwed the team over. He shouldn't be allowed to see the field ever again.

I understand and agree, however I hardly ever cut my nose off to spite my face. If )and this is a big if) JG is the best chance of winning, then that's who I go with. Bitter pill I know, but the name of the game at this point is win. The box we are in because of number of winnable games left leaves no room for a loss. If we were bowl eligible or near it, then no JG. But he may be it, as disagreeable as it is.

If he can throw a slant accurately and on time He will start. Plus where he has not gotten practice reps he probably got 4x more reps this week....

I'm hoping they don't call too many risky pass plays where he has to force anything. Keep it simple with screens and quick outs, and get rid of the ball quickly and we can lean on the running game. Plus, with the expected rain, I doubt we'll see many shots downfield with a new QB.

We NEED to get one far downfield early to keep them on their heels. Cant gash them running if they have no fear of our deep threat. Coaches dont even bother to call those for JG so even mid is loaded with defenders.

JG can't be trusted anymore, last Saturday proved that

Yeah, that was so outrageously bad that if we had a redshirt walkon QB on campus, Guarantano might transfer now. Smith had an open crease created, and had he simply handed off the ball, at least the Bama fans would have kept their cigars in their pockets another five minutes.

Shout has not looked good at all in the limited playing time he has. Has a strong arm but very inaccurate might as well just roll with JG

We actually don't know that. It's just as likely he simply reacted badly when the LBs moved up to fill the gap just before the snap.

We won’t win this game. Muschamp will stack the box and force us to throw
There are more mysteries with Shrout than there are positives with JG. Losing Maurer sucks however USC is missing their starting RB this week, our OL is coming along well and Tim Jordan was a pleasant surprise last week. Lets see what happens

Don't you think that is obvious and The Staff will plan accordingly for a stacked box and the blitz?

Won’t matter if JG is in there. Georgia State did the same thing and look what happened. It’ll be a massacre playing against a much better team.

JG or Shrout ---- I am asking just don't know...

Nashville news (Ch. 17) stated this morning no call as been made as to who starts. Just that if JG gets the call expect loud booing. (hate to think this will happen)
What are the differences in these two skill wise? ( yes, Jg has more experience) I feel their skills are not too different.
If this is true, then why would SC care who is on the field? Preparing for one is preparing for both.
This being the case Coach P may just be waiting to say (if it is JG) who gets the call to keep down the negativity from us experts. AND their are many more than just VolNation experts.....
Physically they're similar players except JG seems to be more accurate and Shrout seems to have a stronger arm. Only by degrees on both.

What we know that JG can't do isn't physical though. He doesn't make good reads. He takes too long to process info. He lacks the confidence to anticipate throws or lead receivers into catches. He's very risk averse and will quickly go to the check down or safe throw when a better play is available.

We don't know how Shrout will do making decisions. We do know JG is terrible at it. The physical part matters much, much less.

Remember something here about these unknowns, Joe Montana one of the best QB ever, was the seventh string QB at Notre Dame his freshman year. He got his first start in his Sophomore year when Rick Slager was injured and he was one of those guys that just WINS. We will not know how Strout will turn out until you give him some playing time and see what he can do, but you have to allow him to play and take risk, to see what he is capable of.

JG has had more than enough time to show what he is capable of and it is not much, let the young guys have there chance and see what they can do.

JG was rather effective the last 2 weeks moving the offense downfield. His problems seem to amplify once the offense gets into the red zone and then he seems to get really uncomfortable and his inability to make quick decisions become amplified. His being uncomfortable also seems to effective the offense, as our procedural penalties seem to increase near the goalline as well. I would almost prefer having JG start the game and any time we get into the red zone let JJ run the offense. He at least never seems to get nervous or uncomfortable.

Agree but he gives us the best opportunity to win in the rain imo.

I know it your opinion and I respect that, but I disagree with you. He's had every opportunity to win games but has not. He's lost both times he's started against SC, including the one 2 years ago when we had 1st and goal for the win, and he had the lead last year and could not score points down the stretch.

We will lose if JG starts and plays the most (IMO), so why not play JT? Perhaps he balls out, perhaps not. We know JG is not going to ball out.

JG hasn't given this team the best opportunity to win in a while. That's all we heard all this year, you tell me who looked better Maurer or JG. JG doesn't have a feel for the game and can't make the correct checks
Agreed. Last year yes, absolutely, he was by far our best option.

This year?...he’s gone from a fairly solid, mistake free QB who could occasionally elevate his play to a high level and win some games (auburn and Kentucky), to an absolute bust who not only doesn’t help you win but who actually causes you to lose.

Gotta start Shrout and see what you have with him, see what he can do. And the only way JG sees the field is if Shrout’s play is catastrophic.
