People jumping off theMullin train yet ?

Why would I be? There backup qb put up 28 points on decent team. Our starting an couldn’t put up 28 points on a terrible team with a week to prepare. Not to mention MSU is in the West, if UT were in the West we wouldn’t have made a bowl the last 10 years much less complain about being 8-4. We haven’t beaten a team from the West in nearly 10 years

We haven't had to play 3 West teams in the same season in a decade so I have no idea what the point of this post is.

The point of the post is we will have to beat 3 west teams to get an SEC championship. Did you even read the whole post? It actually says that in there. If you don’t understand let me break it down for you. Every year we play a random west team. Then we play Bama every year. If we win the east then we must play another west team in the SEC championship. That’s 3.

trust me on this, when this Ole Miss NCAA thing is over, their next stop is Starkville and Mullen will be our Donnie Tyndall 2.0.

There's a damn good reason Florida (his former AD) isn't talking with him.

I agree with this. Oh and let’s not forget he’s been stuck at miss state for nine years. If he was so great, one of the many big time openings in the past 9 years would have hired him but he isn’t on anyone’s radar. Why? Because ADs that wanna win championships know he isn’t the guy.

You know it!

You people are complete fools. First off, you lose your premiere QB which makes the game plan completely different. Oh and let me explain to all of you so called football people....Dan Mullen didn't throw and interception and Dan Mullen didn't fumble the football. I know most of you want to blame him for that but all that shows is how ignorant the majority of you are when it comes to understanding the game. I would take Mullen before most of the names mentioned as a coach. And if we get him and we start winning a lot of games, all you negaVols need to leave and start following another team.

I wasn't to big on Mullane until this game. I seem to remember UT being in this same quarterback situation a couple of weeks ago with the difference being, Mullen developed and implemented a game plan to the strength of the quarterback on the field......something UT couldn't or didn't do. Personally, I like the thought of a coach being able to shift gears and improvise a game plan immediately.

Or play one team twice. Bama has ran rough shot over the whole conference, so odds of that are pretty good. That's why it shouldn't factor in. You're not going to avoid them. Anyone willing to take this job has already considered that. Shouldn't be a big deal. Bama is the target now. Everyone knows who the benchmark in this conference is..

You guys couldn't wait for this night but what you didn't mention is Nick Fitzgerald went down in the 1st quarter with an injury that made everyone in that stadium puke

Yep and isn't it fair to say he should've had his backup QB ready? I mean that's what we had a thread here about saying Butch couldn't develope. You can't have it both ways.

No, that's you. You want to carry water for guys who have losing records in games that really county, be my guest. But don't think for a minute that you're supporting anything remotely intelligent or have a basis for telling others they are on a lesser plane than you.

Quick, name one, one, real accomplishment by Dan Mullen and, don't give me the "it's really hard to win at MSU" crap. He isn't winning and it's been going on for nearly ten years.

And, you have the balls to tell people they are dumb for realizing this plainly obvious fact? Amazing.

Lol..... how old are you? There's no way you're a day over 21

They supported Butch

They recognize his twin

I supported Jones and yes this is true.

Some are either blinded by the support for Mullen or are blinded by their hate towards Jones so much that they can't see the end results and reasons why for losses are the same.

If this is what we end up with - there was absolutely no reason to look for a new HC. We should have kept the one we had.

I get he plays in the west - but I seriously thought the desire was to win the east and be able to compete with and beat teams in the west. I thought we wanted to beat BAMA and not lose games we should win. Mullen fails both of those tests every season.

It was Dan Mullen's whole career as a head coach I'm out on.

Okay, let's look at it this way. He is doing this at Mississippi State. Let's look at what he did with Talent. While at Florida two National Championships. So my argument is, when he gets top level Talent he wins national championships. Do you think he's getting the same Talent at Mississippi state that he could get it Tennessee? No. So how can you possibly compare the two schools? But his record at Mississippi State, his record at Mississippi State. You mean the same Mississippi state that I have never seen be relevant? The same Mississippi State team that has never competed against top-level SEC teams in my entire life? That is until he got there. How could you say or where is your evidence he's not a good coach?

He is a good coach. He is just not an upgrade.

I’m truly stunned at the plummet in football IQ on VN that has happened in the last few years. Dan Mullen is doing more at Miss St with less resources than anyone else who came before him at that dumpster of a program. I’m just tired of trying to convince simple minded people who only have the ability to do remedial math by counting win and losses and lack the intellectual capacity to incorporate context into a discussion. Best of luck with your Gruden hopes, but like I told another poster, don’t try to rewrite history with your Mullen hate if he comes here and wins big.

He is a good but never shown to be a great coach. He had a good year with Dak. What evidence has you believing he is a great coach? 2nd from the bottom consistently in the sec west?

We could do worse, but no Mullen

Like I stated to the reply just above yours he's won two national championships with talent at Florida. he's taking a Mississippi State team, that I have never seen be relevant or really win my whole entire life. The last time anyone won at Mississippi State like he did was Jackie.

To compare his record at Mississippi State, a team severely lacking and the facilities like at UT, to Butch Jones is ridiculous. He took a walk-on freshman, who hasn't taken many snaps, and almost took them to Victory against their most hated rival. His ability to adjust his game plan to fit the players is exactly what we need and defines a good coach.

And then people scream Scott Frost, Matt Campbell, who hadn't done a damn thing? Ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.

It's a never ending struggle..... I've become disillusioned with the overal level of ignorance amongst the Vols fan base.

I don't think that Tennessee will have to worry about it.

Chattanooga free press:

Dan Mullen (Mississippi State head coach): Mullen has been mentioned in media reports as someone Tennessee likely will pursue. He was asked about the Vols job last week and said, "I love the one I have." Mullen is poised to bring back a strong roster in 2018, and he could use interest from Tennessee to leverage a raise in Starkville.

Never on board but Mullen is the 2nd best coach or atleast top 3 in the Sec"that being said the Sec coaching is terrible it down right Sucks!

I watched the game and what puzzled me was the demeanor of Mullen. I realize he lost his best and probably most important player but he never seemed concerned, never got upset at some obvious bad calls etc. He almost acted like he knew he had another job waiting.

I agree and noticed that. Even the announcers mentioned he may be coaching his last game in the stadium. Hmmmm

The fan base at Tennessee cannot understand that many of the names they mention have no desire to coach at Tennessee. It is not like we can SELECT the coach we really want. I have been watching Tenn football for over 50 years. We are such a no factor in college football right now that not many coaches want the headaches associated with our fan base.
