Penn St fires James Franklin

He’s been there 11 years now and hasn’t beat anybody really, 1 conference title , one playoff appearance his record against Ohio State and Michigan and Oregon is awful. It was time to move on from him.

They’ve been a top 10 program the last 3 years and if take out 2020-2021 when college football was wonky, top 10 for a decade.

I think this is way too reactionary.

I disagree. This is the first time in years he lost games he shouldn’t have. That was the knock on him for a decade. He would handle the teams he was supposed to and would struggle vs Ohio State Michigan and now Oregon with expansion.

I personally think this year was an anomaly for them, but there was nothing that would lead anyone coming into this season to think they’d ever get treated like they did by UCLA or Northwestern. That’s what makes this all so shocking is how quickly south these last 2 weeks went.

Would Florida or Arkansas go after Franklin?

The best thing for us is that this firing happened. Because now Florida has to decide if late rallies to a 7-8 win regular season by Napier is worth another season or if they should kick the tires.

Florida fan base is gonna be twisted in a pretzel the next couple of months lol

Other than Cignetti (who nobody knew who he was 3 years ago) who is better than James Franklin that would be guaranteed to produce the success he has?

I think it's similar to Mark Richt at Georgia. Consistently winning 9-10 games a year on average, but never or rarely winning the big games that matter.

“Hey prospective coach, yeah so we just fired a coach with 6 double digit win seasons in 12 years and made the B1G title game and national semis just 10 months ago after a bad two weeks BUT we will give you time to build your program!”

Sure that’s gonna be a good selling point!

If Florida was smart they would.

Virginia Tech would be a perfect spot for him. He could win 8-9 games and be a god there
Much rather see Franklin at UF than Cignetti or Kiffin. Either of those 2 get that job and Katie bar the door.

Mark Richt would have been a perennial playoff coach with his record had the playoff been 10 years earlier.
