Cignetti is a Pennsylvania native who spent many years at Pitt. Would be a great move
I didn’t realize this but he’s 65. He doesn’t look it but seems like he’s been firm in his stance that Indiana was the one that gave him a chance so he has loyalty to them bigly. And given what he’s done there, you only gotta get Mark Cuban to spend to keep him there.

Wow kinda shocking. Figured they would at least hang on until the end of the year.

I’ll probably be in the minority but I think this is a bad move for them

6 double digit win seasons in 12 years, 3 straight double digit win seasons and two playoff wins last year.

According to the original terms released for the contract extension Franklin signed in 2021, Penn State owes him $56 million dollars in a buyout. However, the contract was amended in 2024 without publicly released terms. It is possible Franklin and his camp could have negotiated different parameters for an exit.

Franklin compiled a 104-45 overall record with the Nittany Lions, finishing with a mark of 64-36 against Big Ten competition.

Franklin assistant and Penn State alum Terry Smith, currently the associate head coach, is the new interim head coach. He has only ever been a head coach at the high school level. But, between his ties to the current roster, alumni base, and future recruits, it’s hard to put anyone else above him on this list.

He’s been there 11 years now and hasn’t beat anybody really, 1 conference title , one playoff appearance his record against Ohio State and Michigan and Oregon is awful. It was time to move on from him.
