Pearl Ripped...

NY, It is clear to me you have your opinion on BP. I have mine. I don't fire him at TN because of all the money he has made. Bad business move to me. I don't care if I even like who is coaching. I really don't. It's all about winning games and putting out an entertaining product. Coaches really aren't saints. We all know if BP gets fired they will hire some unproven guy less than they are paying Dooley. They aren't going to go after an elite proven coach. You wouldn't see Jay Wright or someone like that. You just won't.

No reason to keep arguing with NY and Hat they clearly do not like Pearl and never have. I can't wait until they get their wish, Pearl gets fired and we have another mediocre coach at UT and 5000 fans in the stands. So you might as well quit wasting your time. Hat was still dissing Pearl last year even as we were going to the Elite 8.

I would imagine he will be there. Some of the worshipers need to be on suicide watch, if so.

My guess is that he uses it as a forum to rip Pearl, while at the same time continuing his jihad against Cal. Something along the lines of: "Somebody tell how the Hell Bruce Pearl still has a job. Well, I guess Tennessee is just trying to keep up with Kentucky."

I've sat through many games that I wanted to put a bag over my head. Don't spill the savior bs to me.

And change your screen name. That's an abomination to the General.

ah so obviously you want to go back to wearing the bag. Here's hoping you and Hat never get that wish.

Nobody in the history of college athletics has ever relished playing the role of the heel more than Robert Montgomery Knight. If he's here next week, we'll find out exactly how he feels about Pearl's situation. If he thinks as Bilas does, expect an all out nuking of Tanning Bed.

They'll milk the drama as much as they can. It's television and not that important.

I'm sick of hearing it EVERY time we play:banghead2:

Its the college bb story of the hour and will be milked by the media for all its worth until the next story comes along. The NCAA money hypocrites(see auburn, os, cal/wild wes) need to make themselves look better so they will crucify/sacrifice Pearl and UT bb. Pearl isn't a fraud, he is a dumba$$ for walking into this.

so you say keep Pearl and the baggage that comes with that will be insignificant? The constant blitzkrieg of bad publicity from the media and other coaches throughout the nation? Bruce Pearl made his name from coaching up scrubs (well, he made his name being a rat, but he brought his name back to prominence by coaching up scrubs). If UT keeps him, he better be able to coach up some serious scrubs in the SEC, otherwise you'll be just as well off to hire some mediocre coach and take that chance.

If the University had fired Pearl, we would not be enduring the constant drumbeat of bad press. It's a complete embarrasment and totally unnecessary. Too bad we have threads on this issue and not the upside this team potentially has. Pearl and the University will carry this issue into every televised game for as long as Pearl is the coach. The player's performance will always be secondary to Pearl's story.

Bruce brought this type of attention to himself and the program.

If he stays, cool. If he gets canned, he had it coming.

I think I'm going to need to change my name

That is one of the more reasonable posts I've seen around here in a long time.

I can't speak for Hat, but the last thing I want is the program to stoop to the lows it has been before. But you do realize that there are more options than Pearl/Buzz/Wade/Jed don't you?

That's part of the UT fan base regardless of the coach. If you want that fixed, gonna have to surround yourself with a different fan base.

The ones making the loudest stink and sniffing Pearl's underwear will just change hats to Duke, UNC, UK, etc.

Until Pearl brought in the casual fans who don't know if the ball is stuffed or inflated,I had never had the person next to me ask if ETSU was an SEC team. This program was doing really well at the end of Mears' tenure throught DeVoe's first five years. You never had people in Stokely worried about getting to 85 so they could get free fast foods. Those crowds were there for, what a shock, basketball. The Pearlophiles are the E! Hollywood Story crowd. They don't know the first damn thing about the game. Just there for the circus.

What happened to second chances? Pearl lied then 'fessed up the next day or so and did the right thing. How many times have we seen the media champion the causes of many athletes and coaches who have made mistakes by imploring the public to give them a "second chance". What's different here? Pearl seems to have been a stand-up guy all of his career until this episode and now everybody's ready to bury him. I just don't get it.

Pearl's sanctimonious and holier-than-thou attitude didn't allow him such a distinguished second chance.

Previous UT hires were made when there was a putrid roster, thus the pool of potential candidates was weak. The roster is now stocked and the fan's have returned. The next hire will walk into a great situation (spare the probation). Should be a deep pool of candidate's - let's go get one now before the Pearl situation kills our roster.

With the size of the stadium, a winning, talented team will bring in casual fans. Not sure fans from 25 years ago are the same as today.

would have to believe that is our best chance...

BP is not the program, not above the program and didn't invent the program. The sooner the entire fan base realizes that the better everyone will be.

The only one above the program is hat and his apostles.
