Peace Out

It is what it is and it's not the same. What is going to happen to VFL? You can't tell someone who left here to earn more money over there that they will be a VFL. High school ball is where us old timers will go to see football in its purest form. Until money bastardizes the high school ranks. Sad times for college ball.

VFL will only exist in rare cases going forward. It’s mostly an extinct idea now.

Until money bastardizes the high school ranks.

It's started happening. It's at and will be at the private school level. Most public schools can't get into bidding wars. Some public programs have boosters, but they will support the local talent that is not bidding out their services.

You will be just like me, we be watching every game in 2026. Please back off the cliff. Gonna be okay
It possible though, personally didn’t watch any games this year. Football saturdays are the best days to golf. I agree with OP, college football is cooked

College football we know is done. $$$$ makers are gonna get their way. There may come a day though, young athletes will have to decide to either join the g-league out of high school or go get a college education. I would much rather watch a group of young athletes compete for their school, with a free education, boarding, and nourishment, even though they are of less talent, then the so called future g-league player out of high school and his/hers family thinks. And maybe once a young athlete makes that decision, that's it. He ain't running back to college. Period. Nadda. First it was baseball, then basketball, now football. Go ahead and start g-league football with all the dam sponsors you want. I won't be watching. Never thought it would come to this, but after 50 years as a True VOL Fan,,, I'm out. ✌️
but at what point in anything has money makers not gotten their way? saying this is assuming folk are dumb and have no clue of all the "behind the scenes" stuff that's been happening in sports. especially on levels below college

Some of y'all are too cool, real aloof, hard ass tough guys regarding your fandom
I think some of the division between those who preach krass acceptance (@Hairy Vol), and those who display passionate defiance (@fUTure), is the difference in generations.
Older generations would stand up and protest things they didn't like and attempt to spur change, correction. They feel some entitlement when they have supported something through time, money, and concern.
The newer generations think it stronger to swallow whatever they're force fed and confuse the act with toughness, when they don't push back. They exercise congnitive isolationism to combat against the attachments that grow from investing like the passionate group.

And, the business model we're seeing is more akin to socialism rather than capitalism.
'X' school makes 'x' dollars off of its fanbase's enthusiasm for 'x' team. So, the incoming players now want an even share of the income, even though they did nothing prior to support the industry they now feel entitled to receive premature and arbitrary compensation from, just because the school already has had the success and done the work to create the lucrative platform. That's socialism.
Capitalism is, a player worked hard, created a value in theirselves, and after that, they can then go out and get a "slice of the pie", on a truly open-market.
Capitalism doesn't owe anyone anything, and nor do the schools owe future or current players based on what the market says they could eventually be worth, just because the universities made money off the sport and players in the past.

The problem is, the market is so upside down, top dollar is being paid for unknown commodities, and that alone is going to bleed the sport dry of both interest and finances.
The sport of college football will not live to see or outlast this market correction proficy, if it continues to cannibalize itself at the current rate, and at the behest of the players' greed and indecisiveness.
They are not fit to lead the industry into continued prosperity and functionality, based on their "ownership" of the market for the past few years.
They're bleeding the opportunities earned by those who came before them dry of finances and interest in the process.
If Future has been a fan for 50 years, than I'm certain losing fans like them, in masses eventually, will not be good for the "product(s)"
Wow, what a bad take. And corrupt.

It’s not “krass acceptance” (crass, btw) of being “force-fed”. And WTH high principle, exactly, do you see yourself defiantly fighting for?

What you’re missing about the “cool, aloof, hard ass fans being force-fed”, is we‘re accepting something because it is right, morally and lawfully. We’re actually advocates, not cowed submissives. While the ”defiant” guys seem to be on the side of keeping an illegal cartel system in place that deprives a group of people of the same rights they enjoy, while brandishing their fandom and school pride. As if their corrupt ”passion” should displace others’ rights.

Then likening those rights of mobility and participating in the economy - in which they are the product - to socialism…”logic! - wherefore art thou?”

College football as we know it is done? First Im hearing about this. Thanks for this important announcement and thread.

Also, what are you doing with your gear?
I kinda understand where they are coming from. I still enjoy watching football. Previously I liked college football much more, but Since nil. I have got more interested in nfl than college. Now it’s nfl first and college second. It does seem more like g league like in basketball. I would like college football more if they were under a binding contract to play for x number of years

You get it COMPLETELY wrong about who is driving what you compare to socialism.

The schools sued to bring big money into media deals for themselves. The schools, like UT having Spyre ready from the gitgo, supported the NIL payments and FREELY offer them. The players today were not even in HS when this system came about.

Acting like the players are to blame for a system they merely grew up into is BS.

You obviously don't get it. Pick one of the 16 starters that have Mark Cuban money in their pocket. It's not about stars or star power. Hats off, he bought a great team.

Do you honestly think Indiana could have done what they did without Mark Cuban? Heck I wish he was a Tennessee fan, lol. UT is stuck with the Haslams and they have not shown to be very good at buying teams. Whereas Cuban has bought many great teams in his life.

Indiana spent around the same amount of $$ in the portal as we did.

High school NIL is a thing in 45 of the 50 states.

Especially in Texas. The NIL Boom in Texas: How High School and College Athletes Are Cashing In - The Texas Tribune
I wonder how many graduating high school recruits were held back a year or more. When I lived in Georgia in the 80's I noticed a lot of parents doing this, especially oversized kids who could be linemen. An extra year in middle school would be a big boost when they are 19 or 20 year old seniors.

HS is now like CFB was in the 90s-2020s. Top players get McDonald’s bags.

... Thanks, but I'll keep it "krass". It's the German cognate and original word your "crass" derives from. A simple Google would have kept you from sticking your neck out and, well...

Since you insisted, both are derived from the Latin ’crassus’. At least that’s what a Google search turns up.

Which was hardly the point of the reply.

I don’t know how things are in Tennessee, but in New Jersey, private high schools have been recruiting and bribing parents with Free tuition since at least the 70s. Sometimes the kids aren’t even from NJ. As far as public schools, don’t think the sleazy factor is near as bad or has been going on as long , but there are towns that mysteriously have the best teams year after. Sometimes it is because they have great Pop Warner programs. Other times, it seems to be kids that enjoy visiting Aunt Agnes and Uncle Mearle so much, their parents let them move four counties away.
