Yes, Martin is somewhere between a mediocre and bad coach. But you guys are TOTALLY overrating the talent on this team. UT is not, in fact, very talented. This team has ONE good player--McCrae. That's it. Stokes is the team's second best player, but he's a tweener--a power forward who can only play close to the basket but lacks the size and length and quickness and shooting to be special.

After those two, who? Precisely. Everybody after those two is utterly average. Got a coupla freshmen who might develop into good players--but right now they're just freshmen. See this team for what it is--mediocre talent, mediocre coach that in fact probably won't make the tournament. We've lost to all but one of the decent opponents we've played this year.

Coaches utilize talent. That's their job, to abandon their philosophy if need be, and adjust to maximize the talent to their fullest potential. Even if it is mediocre talent, great coaches can get it done regardless. Calling our roster mediocre is absurd. Mike Anderson could come in and win 22 with this team. As much as I am tired of Pearl worship, he would win 22 or or more with this team.

Stokes is a 4 playing a 5. He would thrive in someone else's system.

I would totally disagree. I believe if the guys were in an up tempo, back screening offense we would see their athleticism flourish. Our motionless offense now makes them look lackluster

Regardless of how you look at it, this is the most talented team we've had in years. We should be doing far and away better than this.

We have plenty of talent! I was really excited about this basketball season. I am not saying we need to fire Cuonzo but he is not doing something right. It falls on the coach to develope and motivate his players and he has not exactly done that this year yet. I'm not giving up on this team yet however!

I'm tired of watching our offense sit around the arc and giving a terrible effort to work the ball inside to at least draw a damn foul.

The scheme that our players are forced to play within continues to limit the use of their athleticism and doesn't allow them to showcase their true abilities. IMO

This. I'd love to see Barton, Hubbs, McRae, and Richie Rich running and gunning (no, not the Tyler and Ramar Smith type of running and gunning.) but seeing them pressing using their length and creating turnovers and alley-opp fast breaks!!

I mean you could put in a lineup of Barton, McRae, Hubbs, Richardson, Davis and literally run the other team until they puked. Then sub Maymon and Stokes in and change the pace a little and sprinkle Thompson in when Barton gets tired of racking up the assist.

I disagree. You play to your strengths and Martin isn't very good at that. There's a reason why certain coaches recruit certain kinds of players....because they fit in with what their trying to do. Martin's problem is, he don't know how to adjust.

I think Thompson is a way better assist man myself.

Barton can just light up the score board .

I only used him because he's quicker. Thompson is the better overall pg no doubt. Both would do well in the press though. Imagine what Rick Pitino could do using his press with this team...

I agree with this. I'm not against half court sets because that's one of the things I griped about when Pearl was here...we didn't run nearly enough half court stuff and set plays. But Martin's coaching philosophy really puts a leash around a potentially great offense. I wouldn't expect Stokes or Maymon to run and gun but you can integrate these two into what your doing. So sad this talented group likely isn't going to accomplish anything.

Stokes is a short, slow, non jumping 5. He is not quick enough to play the 4.

Should not play Mayman and Stokes at the same time. that is a defensive death nail.

I'm starting to realize this team isn't as talented as most would like to believe. UT still lacks outside shooting, size in the paint, and a legitimate PG. Thompson might be a great player in the near future but he doesn't look like a point guard imo. When both of your interior guys are 6'7ish you can expect blocked shots and hesitancy when facing taller opponents.

Going up weak with the ball is more of a problem than just facing taller opponents. These 6'7ish guys are soft as marshmellows. At least 5 of those blocks don't happen if they go to the rim with authority instead of acting like their afraid to break a nail.
