Our talent is mediocre...

Yes, Martin is somewhere between a mediocre and bad coach. But you guys are TOTALLY overrating the talent on this team. UT is not, in fact, very talented. This team has ONE good player--McCrae. That's it. Stokes is the team's second best player, but he's a tweener--a power forward who can only play close to the basket but lacks the size and length and quickness and shooting to be special.

After those two, who? Precisely. Everybody after those two is utterly average. Got a coupla freshmen who might develop into good players--but right now they're just freshmen. See this team for what it is--mediocre talent, mediocre coach that in fact probably won't make the tournament. We've lost to all but one of the decent opponents we've played this year.
Not sure I agree with your statement, most of the time the guy with the whistle at practice has most of the control of who plays and how they play!

Mediocre talent?! lol Are you kidding me man! Yeah, the way they have/are playing says they are average, nothing special players. But, remember, Jarnell Stokes was a 5 star recruit and SHOULD BE DOMINATING. Jeromme Maymon, another big-time recruit and Marquette transfer, is underachieving! MaCrae is MaCrae...the only player to live up to his hype! Antonio Barton, now here's ANOTHER 4 star recruit and MEMPHIS transfer that hasn't lived up to expectations. Robert Hubbs...lol....ANOTHER big-time 5 star recruit....he looks lost and plays like a 2 star!

So please, do not tell us that we have mediocre talent. We have TOP 20 talent, but its going to complete waste under this Gonzo Cuonzo the Clown Martin!!

Quit making excuses for this MEDIOCRE coach!

Going up weak with the ball is more of a problem than just facing taller opponents. These 6'7ish guys are soft as marshmellows. At least 5 of those blocks don't happen if they go to the rim with authority instead of acting like their afraid to break a nail.

This 100%. Stokes is afraid he'll get his headband messed up.

We may not have Final Four talent, but we do have NCAA tourney talent and it is being wasted.

Are you serious? People don't rate you the 3rd best team in the best side of the league unless you have talent. ****ty thread topic

We don't have enough size. Which is why Davis is the back up 4. He should be a 3. Neither Maymon nor Stokes are 5s. We have too many 6'4 to 6'7 guys.

If our talent is mediocre, then we need a coach who has a reputation for doing more with less.
Does anyone come to mind?...

OP, you have got to be kidding me. We have at least 2 future NBA players in Stokes and McRae and you're going to tell me that we have mediocre talent? GTFO!

just watched the first 2 minutes of this hs game on espn and:

-team in blue understands spacing better than CM
-team in white sees a zone first trip down and puts a guy on the ft line to be the center of the offense, which CM hasn't done in 2+ years when seeing a zone.

Barton was also a 5 star.

I have no idea how they rate these players, and Barton might be a 5 star..But come on, the man has not played like a 2 star as of yet in the UT uniform..I can't remember when the last time I seen him hit a jumper

I am not going to claim to be an expert on talent or whether or not CCM is a good coach or not, because I am just not sure..All I can do is go with my eye test when I watch a game..Hell yes, there are many, many times I wish CCM would show some emotion or fire, because I am yelling at the guys constantly while watching, and have no idea why no one has been chewed out during a game..The team looked terrible against NCstate, but despite playing terrible, still had a chance to win that game..Give NCstate some credit, because when the score was at it's closest point in the 2nd half, those kids made plays, and a couple of great shoots when the defense was there..That was the difference..Yes, I am tired of having the records that we always seem to have mid season and some kind of changes need to be made..But despite how much talent most ppl feel this team has (and I don't see it), it always comes down to an individual making a shot or a play, when it is most needed..If we would have hit just a few of those open threes, we would have won..I for one have grown tired of ppl saying that the strength of this team is our bigs, and if CCM really believes that, I am tired of him too..We made NCstate's inside players look like they should have been on the Wooden Watch list, and where the game was lost, was the inside play, and especially on the defensive end...Seems like every team we play, if our guards get to the paint, they have someone waiting on them, where as if we get beat on the outside, our opponents get layups..If CCM is going to continue to recruit 6'7" centers, he better start coaching like Pearl..

Are u talking about the "Stokes" that played against the Tn Tech & Tn St's of the world or the guy last night?..He might make it to the NBA because they draft on what they seeas potential, but he will never have a real impact on a NBA roster with what he is as a player now..I truly believe the majority of money he mades playing basketball will be overseas not in the NBA

This isn't CM first year, its his third. This roster is loaded with CM recruits, except for 2 BP recruits Maymon and McRae who seem to be the 2 best players on the team.

It is simple either CM cant coach or he cant evaluate talent, either way it comes down on him.

If he does not make the NCAA tournament then he should be fired and at this time it looks like he want make the tourny.
