Whatever. As other have said, we’re also the only team to even have played four teams in the current, season ending top 15. You can only play the teams on your schedule.
Put the question in Vegas’ hands. Tennessee plays AT JMU, Tulane, Navy. Who’s favored? The rankings at this point are strictly based on W/L, not who’s “better.”
This is true. Couple that with no adjustments based on how the season played out. Once a team is ranked, they generally will not drop unless they lose
or a team lower than them beats a team higher than them convincingly. The original post is poking at Tennessee but in reality, it is also pointing out how the polls work. They react to what happens each week - they never go back to evaluate results to date based on a better understanding of which teams are actually good.
Tennessee would beat a lot of those teams in the lower half of the poll.
Let's look at the top 9 in the SEC. - I cut it off at 9 instead of 8 because Missouri and Tennessee have the same record.
A&M did not play Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma or Vandy - let that sink in. They only played 2 teams (Texas and Missouri) in the top 9 of the conference and they were 1-1.
Ole Miss did not play Alabama, Oklahoma, Vandy or A&M. They only played 2 teams in the top 9 of the conference and they were 1-1.
Bama played 5 of the top 9. They were 4-1.
Georgia played 4 of the top 9. They were 3-1.
Vandy played 4 of the top 9. They were 2-2.
Oklahoma played 5 of the top 9. They were 3-2.
Texas played 4 of the top 9. They were 3-1.
Missouri played 4 of the top 9. They were 0-4.
Tennessee played 4 of the top 9. They were 0-4.
Of the teams in the top 9, the only schools that played both the teams in the SEC title game (Georgia and Bama) were Tennessee and Auburn.
