Oregon Newspaper Article

Possibly making a move to play defense? Oregon is more known for their uniforms than winning and tradition. Good program, but wouldn't be near the top in the SEC as an overall program and tradition. Would be behind Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Arkansas, and LSU.

Is it that hard to understand that I know that we don't have much tradition? Tradition is something that you acquire over time, something that we're doing right now.

You need to take off the orange and white colored glasses if you think RB is "even". I'd also give DE to us (returning Kenny Rowe, who amassed 11.5 sacks last year). Oregon has one of the best linebacking corps in the country, we also have the advantage there.

You guys don't have Nick Reviez at LB. HE WANTS IT!!

Tennessee>Oregon.

Tennessee has four things going for them in this game.

Tennessee is at home. Oregon doesn't have a great road record. Actually, they have an awful road record.

Justin Wilcox is familiar with the Ducks offense.

Oregon is breaking in a new QB and are notorious slow starters to open up the season.

Tennessee has no pressure on them. Oregon has to win this ball game to do the things they want to do this season. In order for them to live up to the hype, the Ducks must blow out Tennessee.

Tennessee loses, big deal. The Vols are rebuilding, the Vols are the least talented they've been in 20 years, the Vols have a 1st year coach etc.

Oregon loses, they live up to the PAC-10 isn't as talented as the SEC myth.

Good post Justin, I was watching CFL yesterday and they went game by game through Oregon's schedule and predicted them to go 10-2 and win the Pac-10.

When talking about our game they were like Tennessee is in a bad spot with a first year coach, look for Oregon to blow them out big time.

If we can just hang tight at the start of the game and not allow LaMichael to get loose on us, then we can get the crowd into the game and hopefully it will go into the second half and the Ducks will start to feel the pressure.

I think the game will be a lot closer than the "experts" predict. Tennessee has a few things going for them.

Oregons inexperience at the quarterback position is one. If the ducks are one dimensional, Wilcox and the UT defense have it a lot easier.

Another thing is Oregons depth at wide receiver. If the qb does play pretty well, he has one legitimate threat. And I don't even know his name. That's how bad that situation is. Although I will admit I've never kept up with Oregon like I do UT, I usually know the big time and good players for them.

Another thing is the Wilcox situation. This is a hire I really like. His multiple defense he runs seems to be suited to do well versus most offenses. That was a problem last year. Tennessee was great against pro style offenses. Not so great against the spread. Enter Wilcox and hopefully that has changed. Seems to also do more with less. And this is probably the least talented defense he will have while at UT.

One thing I think is overblown is the Neyland factor. Although the travel could factor into the ducks having problems, I don't see Neyland Stadiums noise playing a role. Autzen Stadium is one of the nations loudest and rowdiest. They are used to crowd noise.

It's not so much the Mighty Neyland Stadium, it's that the Ducks suck on the road everywhere they go.

I hope the trend continues. I was just pointing it out because it seemed like many people posted about the fear of Neyland. Right now, I don't think their is a fear. Not when teams like Wyoming come in and win.

Also, the fact that the heat (even at night) will be worse than anything they ever deal with..

I live here in Oregon, and we will definitely have an advantage with the heat. But it wont be as huge of an advantage as you think. It get fairly hot in Eugene during the summer and early fall. It will be an advantage though.

Losing one game early in the season last year doesn't constitute us being notoriously slow starters.

I would agree with this. Boise was very good. Ducks haven't lost early much since losing to Indiana a good amount of time back. From my humble point of view, Oregon notoriously just loses enough games to not be relevant to the national title picture.

We woulda, shoulda, coulda in '07 had Dixon not torn that ACL. We were sitting pretty to face LSU in the BCS Championship game, and then the unspeakable happened.

Bad games(giving up 300+ yards) - Boise, Purdue, Washington, USC, Stanford, Arizona, Oregon State, Ohio State.

Good games(Under 250 yards given up) - Washington St., Cal, Arizona State. The WSU and ASU games sure bolstered those numbers.

Utah almost broke 300 on the Ducks D.

So you held Jahvid to under 4 ypc. So did ASU

No, I'd expect someone to dispute what I'm saying with a logical explanation.

Eh?

Thats what I mean. Even last year the loss to Stanford. Or a few years before that, the loss to USC. In the Pac-10 you have to win em all to play for the title unless you are USC.
