Oregon Newspaper Article

Thank you.

Rowe is solid at DE. Not sure about the other side yet. There are positive reports. But, not enough game-time evidence for me to know.

I don't know much about UT's DE situation. So, I'll take their word for it that they're good there, to be fair.

I'm thinking that Terrell Turner and Rowe are going to be quite the 1-2 punch on the ends...all reports seem to be positive so far.

Great post, Wheaton (THE MOST IMPROBABLE FINISH TO THE MOST IMPROBABLE GAME!). I agree with everything you said, other than the fact that I'm sold on Oregon's DE unit, but not on Tennessee's. Great info, though.

One last thing you haven't accounted for, Neyland Stadium rocking with 100,000 + rabid vol fans. Take my word, it can be very intimidating.

barring injury, i think we'll have rowe/hanna at one side and
jordan/turner at the other although turner will likely see some snaps behind rowe also. one intriguing development is the walk on DE who just crushed igor's bench press record (540 lbs.), not sure if he's gonna make the roster though.

You act as if Oregon doesn't play in an insanely loud stadium. :glare:

Assuming you are correct that Oregon plays in an "insanely" loud stadium, you have never been the visiting team in an "insanely" loud stadium that is almost double the size of yours, in 90 degree heat and humidity, and three times zones away. And don't tell me about playing in the Big House, everyone knows it's big, no one talks about it being loud because it's not.

It's one thing to be the home team in a loud stadium, it's an entirely different thing being the visiting team.

I can assure you with absolute certainty, Oregon has never been the visiting team in a PAC10 stadium that is going to be anything like what they're going to experience in Neyland Stadium.

also very, very true.

I've already stated that I like Oregon and enjoy watching them play (the few times that I've seen them). They worry me because they're a pretty explosive team and because of our (lack of) depth in key positions and the DL. However, if we keep it close in the first half, and the crowd stays into it and defense stays jacked up, I think we've got a great chance at taking this one. Ground breaking stuff, I know.

How is Oregon's defense? And who are the specific playmakers to keep an eye on? Top 5 players overall?

Overall, i'm pretty stoked about this years D, compared to an SEC defensive we are probably not as big as you are used to seeing but really fast and we have some hitters.
crazy depth at LB, 09 starter Eddie Pleasant was moved to the backfield to shore up a hole there. LB unit is probably the strength of the D at this point, although the secondary will be much better this year imo.

playmakers:
Casey Matthews Sr-LB (son of NFL great, Clay)
Kenny Rowe Sr-DE- Rose Bowl DMVP
John Boyett- So-FS freshman AA
Brandon Bair Sr- DT
Talmage Jackson Sr-CB

ironically, last years greatest defensive weakness was our offense, the common denominator in all three losses was the defensive playing 40 minutes, hopefully we'll see a little bit more ball control this year.

Just wait till sept 11th..... Someteam will have 3 time zones to wipe their tears from their eyes on the way home.

Well, if you're looking at Florida, Alabama, etc., sure, there is a difference.

But Tennessee isn't in that category.

the D.U.C.K.S.

reminds me of

the B.E.A.R.S.

how did that work out.

oh yeah,we kicked the crap out of em :)

the comparison of that cal team to oregon this year is perhaps semi valid.

the comparison of that UT team to this years is not.

(coaching stability, depth, ranking etc.)

:)

There is no reason not to beat Oregon at home IMO. And yes Kiffen will get blamed if we lose, but he won't get credit if we win, that the way fans are.

Can't let Kiffin go can you? This has nothing to do with that ass.
