I've figured out how to build benches and chase lounges so far.

Work is kicking my butt at the moment.
It should calm down soon.

I need a builder opinion. I'm going to build a quick and easy deck in the next month. Nothing fancy, just something to get me off the ground and have a place for the grill and a few chairs. I know the right way to build a deck with all the fancy trimmings, but, for my temporary purpose I'm doing an 8'X8' no frills. I plan on using 6X6 or 8X8 layed out parallel to the ground for support. They'll be leveled with flat stones under each end. 2X4's will be the planking. Do you think 3 of the support timbers are enough for this span or should I get four?

For a simple 8x8 deck that close to the ground I would built a 2x8 outer band with 2x6 joists and deck with 5/4 board.
Forget the 6x6 parallel and use hardy block under the 2x8s I'll find a picture. Give me a min.

Thanks. Make it simple/simple. This will be done in a day.

The way you describe this, I'm picturing building an 8X8 box supported on the corners with stone and then planking across the 2X5 joists. Sound close? How many joists?
