“Coach, somebody made a bet that if you beat Alabama … ” one of Heupel’s assistants said as he introduced him.
“Oh? What was the bet?” Heupel asked before he caught himself. “Wait, you’re the guy!”
“I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m the guy,'” Jackson said....
Heupel set down a few things he was holding and got an up close look at his permanent likeness. Jackson asked what he thought when he first saw it.
“I had no idea what to think,” Heupel replied....
Jackson told Heupel he was glad Heupel signed a contract extension in January, less than two months after Jackson got the tattoo, that bumps the coach’s pay to $9 million a year through 2029. Heupel put his arm around Jackson.
“You don’t ever have to worry about me leaving for a long time,” Heupel said, as Jackson recounted.
Jackson attended Saturday’s scrimmage as part of the clinic, and a few players recognized him as they were leaving practice.
“Pull them shorts up!” they yelled.
He started laughing. And obliged.
