Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy interviewed by Currie

From OSU writer. He sounds like this is totally legit

I just can't see it happening.

But...if we somehow land Gundy after this debacle, that would be a monumental win. All of those national guys laughing at us would have to swallow their pride and admit UT came out better in the end. Obviously a very big "IF" there.

Exactly. This is nothing new -- he is using the opportunity to get a raise, as a lot of coaches do. He will get one, even though he probably doesn't deserve it.

Probably correct. And gets a Pokey writer to "leak" that Tennessee is willing to make him the 3rd highest paid coach in CFB...

Is Currie trying to embarrass us day after day. Grundy is coming, just go hire Kiffin, Tee or somebody we can actually get.

This would be the biggest turnaround I have ever seen in a coaching hire! You go from a guy with questionable ethics and integrity who is a marginal head coach at best. To a stand-up guy who is the all time winningest coach at his school in the Big 12 a P5 Conference! I hope this change is meaning a major shift in who is driving this hire. Pair his offense up with a solid DC and let's roll!!!!!

The only problem I could see Gundy having (if he is seriously considering) is that he will be signing with a guy who will not be his boss. Even if Currie makes this hire he has pissed off too many highly influential people along with the fan base to survive past the coaching search.

what's funny about that is, if this was a legit option to begin with....how in the hell did we wait til this point to get here?

you coulda started here. jeez. :eek:lol:

Currie's buddy Schiano needed a pay bump. Follow the money that tells you everything you need to know.

I advise everyone to just buckle up for another few days of rollercoaster ridin' and misinformation.

I mean if we didn't learn our lesson in 2012, Grudenmania, and from SchiaNO-Gate, then learn from this, please.

it's a high risk/high reward move by UT if you don't have a legit shot here. there's no positive spin to come from offering him $8+M and getting turned down. you're not doing that as a smokescreen for anyone else. whiff here, and you're standing there with your pants down.

Tennessee is willing to double Mike Gundy’s salary ($4.2M), according to multiple reports.

$8.4M would make Gundy the third-highest paid coach in CFB.

Seriously?! We are going to offer 8.4mil and that is the best we can do? Can't throw that money at Peterson or Patterson?

Gundy was on my short list with Petersen, Gruden, and Patterson, provided we can get him a good DC. I would be very happy with this hire.

Yeah, there would be a very satisfying aspect of pulling a top 20 coach out of a Power 5 school after all the articles saying how Tennessee needs to know its place and realize they aren't capable of getting an established name.

Agreed.

Not saying you're wrong, but Gundy just got a contract extension and raise this summer. Would OK ST really renegotiate another contract 6 months later?

OKST fans on their message boards seem to be fed up with Gundy doing this every couple of years.

Also, an OKST reporter seems to think this is serious.

According to this article, Tennessee wanted to meet with Gundy yesterday but he said he was busy. They scheduled to meet at 11 this morning. This is not an article from a Tennessee source, this is an OKST guy.

Why in the hell wouldn't we hire Gundy over Schiano in the first place? Our administration is pathetic

Currie has absolutely nothing to lose at this point.

well, i think Sexton is a bad guy, along with Haslam, in all this. and going after Gundy may be a way to kinda give an eff u so you can get that stink off you, if you're currie, and you're trying to rally support from all other boosters not named haslam.

You ain't kidding, pretty pathetic it's come to this but when your AD is run like the good ole boys club what do you expect?

And Gundy's new contract gives him an automatic "rollover" each year. I can't see OSU renegotiating that contract this soon.
