well Dempsey goes from my favorite EPL team to my favorite MLS team...I will take it...the fans in Seattle will go nuts over him...and this is a big get for MLS imo...it pisses me off though about how the Spurs treated him...scores huge goals for them and then just boot him to the side...they deserved their arse kicking that AS Monaco gave them...
Still pissed about the Dempsey transfer.
- MLS has had a long-held stance about not paying transfer fees to get players from other countries. The rule has always been to either take players on loan or wait until they're free agents.
- What the hell happened to the allocation process? USMNT players and players who have been in the MLS, then gone abroad, then are coming back are all supposed to be subject to the allocation order. In this case, according to MLS rules, Portland should have had first right of refusal to sign Deuce. The official MLS stance is that it does not apply to players who are signed as DP. That's fine if that were the rule, but MLS has previously required DP signings to go through allocation order. Freddy Adu comes to mind.
Dempsey is all of a year removed from finishing fourth in voting for Premier League player of the year, and was facing reduced minutes from AVB. Americans still just can't get any love in EPL.
Better to be in the XI and knocking in goals in a mediocre league than riding the pine in a great league.
I just find it a little frustrating because it seems this move is pretty detrimental to the US national team's WC efforts next summer. Dempsey would have been much better served playing in Europe this year as opposed to second or third rate competition in MLS.
Defoe had injury issues but is usually a consistent goal scorer, and the addition of Soldado will be huge. That said, Americans getting no love isn't a Tottenham thing, it's an EPL thing. Only way for Yanks to see the pitch in England is to prove themselves as unequivocally the best option.I am a disgruntled Tottenham fan...first bc of what you said...other than Bale and sometimes Dafoe, Clint was the only scorer they had and he had some huge goals, ESP when Bale was out...and yet he got no love from AVB or the Spurs fans...I'm about to start cheering for Liverpool or Chelsea instead of Tottenham...second is them keeping people like Adebayor and Parker but selling Clint...smh

Aside from that, the midfield is already stacked with the likes of Bale, Lennon, Dembélé, Gylfi, Sandro to a lesser extent, and now Lewis Holtby and Paulinho. I still love Deuce when he's wearing the stars and stripes, and he definitely has proven himself at Fulham and Spurs, but I really don't think he's separated himself from that group.
