This is so dumb. He is the freaking AD. He tells them what to do not the other way around. Especially if it deals with an interim tag

Unless half of them say they will walk. We are contractually obligated to field a team for out remaining games. Hard to do without coaches.

Normally, I’d agree. But it’s been reported for the past 2 seasons that the coaches don’t get along. It could be a situation where they hate each other so much that they threatened to walk over the interim.

Not necessarily, the interim has to lead the coaches on the recruiting trail. Things fell apart in other coach departures. They need to get this right.

I’m actually really interested in what happened last night. There was definite movement, notification to the Knoxville media players, and then silence. Something happened.

Something being, Currie is a clueless moron? Another in a growing line.

Then why the delay? Why not at least put the fanbase at ease that they at least give a crap about the program

Because, unfortunately, the fan base is the least of their concerns. This is a business, with lots of money flowing through it. We as fans want it NOW! But, it cant work that way. We all know that, but don't want to believe it (Myself included).

Last night, MIT said that Currie was currently (last night) "assessing his BATNA," which was 1/10 of the deal that was presented to him.

BATNA is Best Alternative To Negotiated Agreement.

I could be wrong with this speculation, but I believe Currie = Haslam. So if Currie hasn't said anything yet, it's because Haslam hasn't let him off his leash.

I think it is the other negotiated agreement. I think something happened in the coaches meeting.

All of that is fine. Doesn’t address the making of a comment into a “for cause”. But they’ve escaped this because it was characterized as “mutually parted ways”. Meaning he took a lesser amount to get away from this and not have to go to court. His legacy will be the first SEC coach to win his division in his first two seasons, and the softest wimp to ever run from a bully.

Or, as I stated yesterday, Florida has a far superior AD.

Granted, they took a gamble and could have, in your words, came out with an omelet on their face. Instead they had a problem, addressed the problem, got rid of the problem, and came out on the other side virtually egg free. Oh, they also did all of this in about a 48 hour time span. I would say that's pretty damned efficient.

only 2 things could be happening right now.

1- the reason nothing has happened yet is it's all due to timing...dotting all the i's and crossing and the t's and we have someone big on the hook and they "think" firing him now won't do any good (although I disagree - fans and players need hope)

2- we are the more incompetent football program and this will set us back for 5-10 years

It's only makes sense even more so now that Florida has no coach that UT already has there man in the bag. Otherwise they would know Florida would most likely go after coaches that we want also. To me that tells me all I need to know yes it sucks but I feel better about it........SOON

I feel this is accurate

They aren't walking away from their buyout. I will buy the recruiting side of it though. Whether a new coach is named soon or not, they will have to keep recruiting going and get the new coach up to speed.

That also came down very very late...curious if it happened at the table. I think someone got cold feet and needed a minute to do one last check..make sure you thought it all through from every angle. That's why I said did he sign in the last few hours.

Jon Gruden now the favorite to become next Tennessee coach
Jon Gruden rumors have hit a fever pitch in Knoxville and now, Vegas oddsmakers are buying into the buzz.

BetOnline has pinned the ESPN Monday Night Football analyst as the new frontrunner to take over for Butch Jones at the end of the season, giving him 2.5/1 odds as of Friday night's late update.

Chip Kelly, Jeff Brohm and Bobby Petrino are behind Gruden at +400, +550 and +550, respectively.

Gruden opened as a 20/1 longshot earlier this month.
Soon!

Since my name is in this I feel the need to reiterate I do not think Gruden will be our next coach. I would love it, yes, but realistically I am still at 10% of it being a reality and at this point that is just because he has not said he is not interested publicly.

I do believe Butch is gone, he knows he is gone, and why Currie is not announcing is a mystery to me. Even if he is going to finish the season he should announce something today. Should have yesterday. If the players like him personally they might play harder to send him out on a good note the same as if there were an interim they all liked.

I am starting to wonder if they just do not feel comfortable with anyone on staff as interim and if Butch remaining is the the best choice for interim I guess I can stretch my mind to where that makes sense. What makes NO sense is the fact the AD has said nothing.

Respect. Watching UF AD Scott Strickland and they asked him if being first was an advantage and doing it now was was wise. He said "absolutely, we obviously aren't going to contact them during the season, but we can have our homework done". I think UT can too w/o firing Butch first. They know he will be fired.
