Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIV

What was the notification? The only thing I saw that sounded official was the usual weekly announcement of press conferences, staff and player availibility, etc. Business as usual. Hopefully that changes. Soon.

Then you weren't paying attention.

Wish I had answers. Would be easier to make something up if I was trying. Still holding tight to what I was told earlier in the week and it still matches up with what’s been transpiring.....just these oddities surrounding continue to be a Tennessee staple and I’ll never get it.

Thanks DocVol I appreciate what you bring to the forum. Frustration is at an all time high. The way Butch is being treated better than Majors and Fulmer was. 2 hall of fame coaches. And then Florida getting rid of thier coach and yet we sit with Butch

It's only makes sense even more so now that Florida has no coach that UT already has there man in the bag. Otherwise they would know Florida would most likely go after coaches that we want also. To me that tells me all I need to know yes it sucks but I feel better about it........SOON

All the Nega-Grudes need to chill. I still think we’re fine. Currie may be playing all this close to the chest for a reason (ESPN, Grudens son finishing his season, etc.). Like previously stated, once Butch is gone the media will turn into blood thirsty dogs wanting to be the first to report any coaching prospects or hires...Currie knows this IMO. I think there’s some resistance on who should be interim and that’s forcing Currie to hold CBJ. Let’s see what the 12:00 presser holds and go from there.

I think this to the nth degree.

Whoever said they think Currie is playing it close to the chest and gave the Lady Vols situation as an example, that's an interesting take. The silence coming from him is deafening. There's no way he got to be the AD at two different schools with being completely inept. That gives me a bit of hope.

I'm definitely in the wishy-washy camp. Got burned in 2012. It's like going through a bad breakup. I want to love again, but I'm hurt.

YES .... In the very beginning... I was told three things

1. Butch was done (no timing giving) this after Ga game
2. Money was there to hire a big time coach
3. No name given on who that hire would be but I would be happy with it

I also believe what DTO, Boro, and OldVol have posted

And BCarterVol

As in possibly naming an interim and there were issues among some of the coaches? And then players said they wanted Butch instead of an interim?

I do not think the players said that. I do think there was likely some pushback from the coaching staff about who the interim would be.

I am really mad right now. There is no good situation trotting Butch out there on Saturday. Only a Thunderous amount of boos for the people that actually show up.

Tennessee coach Butch Jones: No plans to resign after Sunday meeting

You know what this means? It means the Grud turned you down. 10-11 million was not enough because the fan base will not allow for success at UT right now. You did this to yourselves. There is only one person that WANTS this job right now and it's Jones. Look in the mirror.

Yes, because the fans of LSU, Florida State, Ohio State, etc. all send their coaches and AD participation trophies and cookie bouquets when they underachieve. Tennessee is the only fan base in the country that is a bunch of meanies.

I suggest sensitivity training for all Vol fans and until then, we need to make sure that all associated with the athletic department have a safe place.

I've been told twice now that nobody on the staff really wants the interim job.

This may be why we're sticking with the Big Suck.

Currie is savage if he trots Butch out there for USM. It's going to be ugly with all the vitriol from the fans. I feel bad for the players.

Since my name is in this I feel the need to reiterate I do not think Gruden will be our next coach. I would love it, yes, but realistically I am still at 10% of it being a reality and at this point that is just because he has not said he is not interested publicly.

I do believe Butch is gone, he knows he is gone, and why Currie is not announcing is a mystery to me. Even if he is going to finish the season he should announce something today. Should have yesterday. If the players like him personally they might play harder to send him out on a good note the same as if there were an interim they all liked.

I am starting to wonder if they just do not feel comfortable with anyone on staff as interim and if Butch remaining is the the best choice for interim I guess I can stretch my mind to where that makes sense. What makes NO sense is the fact the AD has said nothing.

BINGO..... Sorry if you felt lumped into a group that you are not part of... I included you because I trust your honesty and read a couple of things about Butch being gone that you wrote that I agreed with...

I should have either confirmed you position as NOT totally Gruden but the other .... hope this apology is well received

Last night, MIT said that Currie was currently (last night) "assessing his BATNA," which was 1/10 of the deal that was presented to him.

BATNA is Best Alternative To Negotiated Agreement.

I could be wrong with this speculation, but I believe Currie = Haslam. So if Currie hasn't said anything yet, it's because Haslam hasn't let him off his leash.
