Gruden's interpersonal skills are off the charts. He would be a huge success on the recruiting trail with both the kids and their families. Even though he hasn't coached in a while, he probably spends more time breaking down film than today's coaches do. If we get him here next year, we may actually beat Bama before short stuff retires.

His NAME is instant credibility. Just the world we live in. Recruits and potential assistants would buy in...results unseen. I don’t believe any hire is guaranteed success but his modus operandi was dedicated preparation. He managed to build a West Coast offense operating Raiders team right under Al Davis micromanaging watchful eye. That’s no small feat. The narrative is that he coached Tony Dungy’s team to a Super Bowl win, but the team they beat was just as talented and most likely wins with him at the helm. That’s as close as we’ve been to “take his‘n and beat your’n and take your’n and beat his’n” in recent memory. :)

Holy ****ing ****. WHO ARE YOU? several likes.

Nah he sent like 20 some odd tweets late last night.

What did all those say?

Good Grudeball day all!

I am firmly in the cautiously optimistic about Gruden camp. Given the last round of Grumors without them panning out and my view that there are a number of reasons to think Gruden would prefer the cushy announcer gig or another NFL gig, I think the chances are far greater that we get another coach but I like that the rumors seem to suggest UT’s power brokers are unified and tired of mediocrity and that gives me hope that we will get a substantial upgrade from Butch.

I am puzzled by the anti-Gruden people, however. College football is more about the jimmies and the joes than the Xs and the Os and has always been that way. Elite coaching can develop better players and maximize players in a scheme but Gruden’s celebrity and likely staff would increase the talent level on the Hill (although I would expect a learning curve on the recruiting front) and that’s more than half the battle. I also cannot imagine that coaching from Butch, et al., would not also see dramatic improvement under Gruden and his staff. Who knows if Gruden would have a Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh, Petersen effect at UT but I think it’s crystal clear that he would be an upgrade from our current coach and so he has a higher floor than our coach’s apparent ceiling and Gruden would have a chance to have an elite run at UT. He could also fail to reach the highest level but we would be better with him as coach than where we are now and that should be our focus.

This guy gets it

Not gonna lie. Although I've voiced my opinion on the chances of him coaching here, I occasionally entertain what it might be like if he did.

If I was to quote John Ward....

Having to explain the upside to having Gruden as our coach makes me wonder about the person. For sure nothing is a guarantee, but goodness sakes who would you rather have than him??? Do these folks asking things see the Durkin, Flecks or some up and comer as a better candidate. I could print all day why he is the perfect hire, but I am not going to state what has been stated a thousand times too some that have a inferiority complex and who we should hire. That thinking is one of the reasons we are where we are too day. SOON!!!! GBO!!!!!

He would absolutely kill it with recruiting. Manning would be seen around the program in some advisory/consulting position. Recruiting would literally take care of itself. jmo

I take his public presence around the team, facilities, Butch, etc. to mean nothing more than he is doing MNF in Nashville and he came to see his son and is paying a visit to the program out of good will as an ambassador.

As much as I want Gruden I do not believe he would be offering this much public exposure of himself directly to the team during the season if he were considering coaching here next year.

Hope I’m way off on my opinion but just appears to be a convenient, casual visit to show UT some love since he’s “in the area”. Nothing more.

If he didn't allow his presence in Knoxville to be known as in not coming around the team and the facilities but was rather "sneaking around" then it would be too obvious.

He is doing what he should do as a father and broadcaster - see and be seen - be visible - take photos with adoring Tennessee fans.

I for one have chosen to believe that there have already been discussions off the record between Gruden's people and Tennessee's people and that there is a dual purpose for his visit to Knoxville.

Let's just roll with it. I sincerely hope that UT makes Gruden tell them no! That my OG's, and new Grudenites, means that the UT Brass has gotten serious about football and winning!

Well stated!

How close are Monte Kiffin and Gruden? By all accounts Monte liked it here. Wonder if he and Gruden talk?

Can somebody please run into the bookstore and buy that man an orange coach's polo?

I’m doing reverse psychology on this one.
Gruden is wearing Carolina black.
He wants Carolina to win today because he knows that as soon as CBJ gets to 5 losses that the change will be made.
