Official Jon Gruden Thread XVII

I posted how odd it seemed that Butch was so calm and relaxed during the mid week presser. One would assume he'd be worked up and on edge if he were coaching for his job at UT. He would know this game is a must win. The way he came across was a bit out of character for him. Your post does seem to explain that.

Butch's demeanor still makes wonder if he hasn't let it be known to Currie that if the opportunity arises he's on the first train out of Knoxville.

It’s all good, Coasty.
Have a great weekend!
I’m looking at today as a win/win.
If Vols win, yeah for our players and us beating Muschamp.
If Vols lose, and that hastens the search for a better Coach, that’s a long term win for our program.
Fix it.

You know, guy. You're way too serious. This is a fun thread. A place to relax a bit since there is little fun about the football season so far. Don't get all crazy with the hires or lack thereof. Relax, chuckle at the banter, toss up a few funny posts yourself.

Learn to not take things to seriously and laugh at what's going on around you. Everyone needs a good laugh.

The Gruden threads were the only thing that got me through the end of the Dooley error and it's serving the same purpose this go around.
Gives me a little hope taken with a grain of salt and lots of laughs.

Nah as far as I know of illated is good. He said something last night about people hating on him for telling the truth about the whole situation. That's why he went dark last night. Can't blame him. Bunch of bridge trolls...

The truth shall set you free.

Good. I was worried that the weather screen might be his and reveal where he lives to whatever boss he's hiding from.

I don't Tweeter, as you can tell. I am far too old for such foolishness. :wink2:

--although I sure read them when they're posted.

As far as Gruden goes, I would be dumbfounded and totally floored if he came to coach at UT. Crazy to leave the job he has IMO.

One thing I don't understand is the infatuation UT fans have with Gruden. What makes him a lock to be a home run hire in the college game? What makes him our savior? Seems there are others with more of a collegiate track record and more "proven" at this level.

His NAME is instant credibility. Just the world we live in. Recruits and potential assistants would buy in...results unseen. I don’t believe any hire is guaranteed success but his modus operandi was dedicated preparation. He managed to build a West Coast offense operating Raiders team right under Al Davis micromanaging watchful eye. That’s no small feat. The narrative is that he coached Tony Dungy’s team to a Super Bowl win, but the team they beat was just as talented and most likely wins with him at the helm. That’s as close as we’ve been to “take his‘n and beat your’n and take your’n and beat his’n” in recent memory. :)

Not gonna lie. Although I've voiced my opinion on the chances of him coaching here, I occasionally entertain what it might be like if he did.

If I was to quote John Ward....

You just perfectly summed up my thoughts on Gruden.
For all any of us know it might not work out in the end but his name alone would attract the recruits. His knowledge of the game is second to none. These two things would put us ahead of the game from the start and is plenty enough reason to take the gamble of hiring him if he is willing to take the job.
