That's what I said. Recruiting coordinator/ assistant coach. That would be his title.

He would make a great RC but I seriously doubt stubborn a$$, my system is infallible Butch would take a step back, at Tennessee, to 'learn' from someone else.. Hell, he already knows it all.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to see a locker room with divided loyalties. Regardless of what we see, there would inevitably be some of the players that would retain loyalty to Lyle and could cause problems.

It's best to just let him go and move on with our lives. We do owe BJ for getting us consistent top flight recruiting classes, but little else at this point. His buyout is going to be "thanks" enough.

We are all reading tea leaves at this point. I for one don't find it so far fetched that Jones has been kept in the loop and absolutely knows where he stands and what will happen. I also can see a scenario in which he has had enough and is ready to leave. If Gruden went to a practice yesterday, I really don't read much in to that one way or the other.

I posted how odd it seemed that Butch was so calm and relaxed during the mid week presser. One would assume he'd be worked up and on edge if he were coaching for his job at UT. He would know this game is a must win. The way he came across was a bit out of character for him. Your post does seem to explain that.

As far as Gruden goes, I would be dumbfounded and totally floored if he came to coach at UT. Crazy to leave the job he has IMO.

One thing I don't understand is the infatuation UT fans have with Gruden. What makes him a lock to be a home run hire in the college game? What makes him our savior? Seems there are others with more of a collegiate track record and more "proven" at this level.

I agree. The first thing the new emperor does is get rid of the old emperor. For the exact reason you mention.

I was VERY careful NOT to compare Gruden to God.

Even in a joking manner, I’m aware that could upset some.

I compared Gruden to an Angel, not God.

Please read my post again, my fellow Christian and Vol.

Not to be argumentative but your statement says "Gruden works in mysterious ways...." this is not an attribute of an Angel but one attributed to God.
If your intent was to not do so, I apologize for my lack of reading skills but read so many references taken that way that guess I jumped the gunna little.

Hope we get Gruden, even if he doesn't win Big (which I believe is impossible) he will change the culture of the Vols for years to come

I don't think Butch has been told that he is already fired. I just absolutely do not believe that.

Now, I think he knows he is in thin ice and needs to win virtually every game left on the schedule to be retained.

I don't know what to make of Gruden visiting practice. At first, I thought it was a bad sign. But, after thinking about it, things would change if/when Butch is officially fired and IF (a big IF) Gruden is interested. Maybe being around the facilities and players will get his interest level up. We can only hope.

I also believe that Gruden most likely has received back-channel informal inquiries.

This..

It's been said Gruden's trip was already in the works. My thinking is if he does anything other than what he's done on previous visits i.e. visit practice, shake hands with coaches, etc., that looks strange and would draw attention.. He's doing exactly what he would do if he's not been approached and exactly what he should do if he has..

Because he's a football genius, has the desire to win and the knowledge to do so. He's an alpha male that would not have any issues surrounding himself with the best assistants.

Hyper organized... I think he's very similar to Peyton, but with a coaching pedigree.

Dude would flat out win here, u have no doubt.

We're infatuated with him due to his strong ties and stated love of the university.

I also hope that Gruden has received back-channel informal inquiries. And he probably has: "Jon, if this thing goes south, would you be interested?" But I doubt he would take them seriously until Butch is fired.

This makes sense to me and I may be coming around.... I'm old and slow

I’m a firm believer in separation of church and state.
That being said I’m even more of a believer in separation of church and football.

End of the day it’s just entertainment. I like it untainted by religion, politics, in laws etc

Ok since Jon has a son that's attending UT. You mean to tell me, that out of all the posters on here, no one is friends with his son? Anyone have a class with him? C'mon VN detectives, where y'all at???????

So Illated likes Mark Chesnutt? I do too, actually. The first time I heard "Bubba Shot the Jukebox", I nearly wrecked my car, I was laughing so hard.

Hope that weather forecast is where you live, not where he (Illated) lives...
Nah as far as I know of illated is good. He said something last night about people hating on him for telling the truth about the whole situation. That's why he went dark last night. Can't blame him. Bunch of bridge trolls...

The truth shall set you free.

The thing is OGs don't understand is how you could doubt Gruden's recruiting contacts and coaching ability.... he is one of the most studious coaches around and football is the same game on any level

The "coach" can coach

Illated94 must be gone again. Page doesn't exist. Do we know the content of the odd tweets? Any nuggets?
There was supposed to be some pictures with the tweets. Balloons popped up as posted above or below. Apparently it is getting real.

Someone that supposedly knows his son posted way back in this thread that his son said he does have the itch to get back into coaching but it wouldn't be in college. Tifwiw

I take his public presence around the team, facilities, Butch, etc. to mean nothing more than he is doing MNF in Nashville and he came to see his son and is paying a visit to the program out of good will as an ambassador.

As much as I want Gruden I do not believe he would be offering this much public exposure of himself directly to the team during the season if he were considering coaching here next year.

Hope I’m way off on my opinion but just appears to be a convenient, casual visit to show UT some love since he’s “in the area”. Nothing more.

We've got a better chance of rehiring Dooley than Gruden or Manning becoming the head coach at UT.

You know, guy. You're way too serious. This is a fun thread. A place to relax a bit since there is little fun about the football season so far. Don't get all crazy with the hires or lack thereof. Relax, chuckle at the banter, toss up a few funny posts yourself.

Learn to not take things to seriously and laugh at what's going on around you. Everyone needs a good laugh.
